Mangaluru: MU to Host 31St South Zone Inter University Youth Festival ‘Waves 2015’

Mangaluru: Mangalore University is hosting the 31St South Zone Inter University Youth Festival ‘Waves 2015’ in association with the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, New Delhi from January 18 to 22, 2016 at

Mangalagangothri’ Campus, said the Vice Chancellor of MU Prof K Byrappa in a press meet held atRavindra Kala Bhavan, Mangalore University here, on January 13.

Prof Byrappa further said that teams from Andhra Pradesh, Telangala, Tamil Nadu, Kerala,Kamataka and Pondicherry are the participating States in the youth festival. 30 universities of AIU have already registered to take part in the five days event and 7 universities will More than 1,500 participants are attending the programme. The aim of the festival is to promote national integration and communal harmony, peace and prosperity.

Addressing the mediapersons director of Students welfare MU, P L Dharma said, “The 30th youth festival was held at Tumkur University and this is the second time Mangalore University is hosting the festival for the second time after 2003. In Tumkur the AIU had sanctioned Rs 13 lakh to host the 30th youth festival. Here in Mangaluru the estimated expenditure of the event will be Rs 45 to 50 lakh and we have urged the AIU to sanction more funds for the event.

Distinguished multi star, cine actor Sri Prakash Rai will inaugurate the youth festival on January, 18, 2016 at 4.00pm in the Mangala Auditorium, Mangalagangothri. Yenepoya Abdulla Kunhi, Chancellor,Yenepoya University and Sampson David, Joint Secretary, AIU, New Delhi will be the chief guests. Prof K Byrappa, Vice-Chancellor, Mangalore University will preside over the programme.

The Special attraction for the inaugural programme is the procession by the participants of the festival in their distinct, unique cultural attires and symbols at 3.00 pm. It will commence from Prof Sheik Ali Road (Double road near VC’s Bunglow) and culminate at the Mangala Auditorium. The procession will be adjudicated by the approved Judges of AIU.

About 25 competitions Wi11 take place at 5 stages simultaneously at Mangalagangothri they are:Mangala auditorium 1 – Dr Shivaram Karantha Vedike
Mangala auditorium 2 – Dr Kayyara Kinjanna Rai Vedike
Science Quadrangle – Giribale Vedike
Old Senate Hall – Panje Mangesha Raya Vedike
Humanities Block – B M Iddinabba Vedike

The competitions will be judged by the AIU recognised judges. The main competitions and the youth festival includes Music, Dance, Theatre, Fine Arts and Literary events. Mangalore University team consisting of 38 students from different colleges affiliated to Mangalore University are participating in the youth festival.

The University has made elaborate arrangements for the stay and participation of the competitors from different states.
