24-year-old newly married woman found dead, parents allege foul play
Kundapur: A 24-year-old newly married woman allegedly committed suicide by Jumping into an open well at her husband’s residence in Siddapura Mangana Salu under the Shankernarayana Police station limits on December 11 evening. However, her parents have alleged foul play in her death.
The deceased has been identified as Gowri Devadiga (24) a resident of Kelakali of Bantwadi Village.
According to the police, Gowri got married six months ago and was staying with her husband and in-laws in Bantwadi. On Monday evening Gowri’s body was floating in the open well at her husband’s residence. The husband’s family members informed Gowri’s parents. On Tuesday Shankernarayana Police along with the fire officials, lifted the body from the well.
However, Gowri’s parents have alleged that Gowri’s husband and other family members were harassing her for dowry.
The Body has been sent to Manipal for post-mortem.
Shankernarayana Police have registered a case and are investigating.
The Karnataka government must contain the deaths
in the open wells by passing a law for safety purpose,
with a well engineered concept of keeping the mouth
of any open well, closed as well ventilated with a solid
tubular or angled aluminium structural frame mesh,
with an opening at the location of the overhead pulley
from where it should be feasible to draw water from
the well. This should apply to all homes and building
societies and farms, with a 12 months lead time frame
given for adhering to this new law and it’s implementation.
In this manner, many lives can be save of those who
willfully jump in the open well to die, or those whose
evil intention is to kill someone by dumping in the open
well, or for those who could accidentally fall in the open
well,
