3 Migrant Women Arrested in Theft Case, Gold worth Rs 4.31 Lakh Seized

Puttur: The Uppinangadi police have arrested three women from Shri Sahasralingeshwara Temple premises here on November 14.

The arrested have been identified as Devamma (19), Bayamma (18) and Geetha (24) all from Gadag.

According to the police, on November 14 at around 12 noon, after getting information that three women along with small children were roaming around the Shri Sahasralingeshwara Temple premises in a suspicious way. The Uppinangadi PSI Nandakumar along with the team reached the spot. As soon as the women saw the police they ran towards the Temple Pond.

The police followed the women and took them into custody. When the police checked their bags, they found gold wrapped in a cloth. When the police inquired about the gold the women failed to give a convincing answer.

The police seized 156.140 grams of gold worth Rs 4,31, 680, 2 mobile phones worth Rs 8000, all worth Rs 4,39,680 from their possession. All the three women were produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.

All the three are natives of Gadag district and beg at various places including railway stations and bus stands, sometimes they also work in fields or do housework. While they beg, they carry small children along with them. To lead a lavish life they indulge in theft and other illegal activities. Last week all the three had gone to an auto driver’s house in Bajal for work. When the auto driver had gone out leaving them to clean the compound they decamped with the gold ornaments. From the past one week all the three had camped at the Netravati River banks in Uppinangadi. These women mostly take up jobs in rich people’s house and steal valuables.

Under the direction of SP Dr Ravikanthe Gowda and additional SP Sajith V J and the guidance of Puttur ASP Srinivas B S and Puttur Circle Inspector Gopal Naik, the operation was carried out by the Uppinangadi PSI Nanda Kumar M M, Devadas, Sangayyatale, Harischandra, Ganesh, Choma, Pratap, Jagadish, Sridhar, Manohar, Irshad, Sachin, Narayan Gowda, Yashodha, Renuka, Niveditha and Preetideepa.
