4 DK-bound Car Passengers Die in Collision at Hassan

Hassan: A night luxury bus ‘Reshma’ plying from Mangaluru to Bengaluru collided head-on with a Toyota Innova car opposite Rajeev Engineering College on the bypass on the outskirts of Hassan in the early hours of Sunday, July 10.

Four were killed on the spot and another two critically injured.

The mishap took place around 2-30 am. Five IT professionals hailing from Madhya Pradesh and employed in Bengaluru were proceeding towards tourist and pilgrimage spots in Dakshina Kannada in the Innova car to spend the weekend holiday. It was being driven by Shankaramurty (30) from Bengaluru, who is among the dead.

The other three casualties are Shubham Tiwary (26) and Ragini Pandey (28), Abhishek Gaurav (28). The seriously injured techies are Aman Preeti and another whose name was not immediately known.

The car landed in a totally mangled state, while the front portion of the bus was smashed. A few passengers in the bus are said to have sustained some injuries.

Those who were at the spot said that because of the highway barricades, both vehicles were prevented from rolling into a gorge and would have been a more terrible tragedy.

The Hassan police rushed to the spot and arranged for shifting the dead and the injured to hospitals. They have registered a case.
