5 Inter-state Thieves Arrested in Various Temple theft Cases

Mangaluru: Five persons from Mumbai have been arrested by the DCBI police in various temple theft cases, said SP of DK Bhushan Borase in a press meet held at the SP Office here on September 26.

The arrested have been identified as Chandrakant Poojary (36), from Honnavar; Narasimha raju (38), from Bengaluru; Naveen Chandra Ban Singh (21), from Maharastra; Vijay Suresh Bonsle (35) and Vishal Ponke (21) from Mumbai.

SP Borase also said that from the past six months there were continuous thefts reported in various temples in the district.  In this connection, various teams were formed to nab the culprits. The DCIB police have now succeeded in nabbing the culprits from Thane, Maharastra.

The main accused Chandrakanth Poojary is involved in various theft cases in Udupi, Kundapur and Chitradurga. Narasimha Raju is a graduate, he is involved in theft cases in Bengaluru, Chikkapete, Perdur Udupi and Karkala and has also been to jail. The sixth accused Prakash Mandya, had met with an accident while he was on the way to Bengaluru after committing the crime in Ullalthi Amma Temple, Nooji, Renjiladi Grama and Puttur Taluk.

The accused were selling the stolen silver and gold ornaments in Mumbai to a Silversmith saying that the ornaments are from the temple and were very old. Trusting them, the silversmith purchased the silver and gold ornaments. The police have seized 22 kgs of silver ornaments and 75 grams of gold all worth Ra 12.5 lakh from the possession of the Silversmith.

Under the able guidance of SP Bhushan Borase, the operation was carried out under the leadership of Additional SP Dr C B Vedamurthy, ASP Puttur Rishyanth, DySP Guarish, Amanullah PI DCIB, Anil Kulkarni, Abdul Khader, Ratan Kumar, Sanjeev Purush, Palanivelu, Uday Rai, Taranath, Iqbal, Laxman, Praveen M Benltangady, Sampath Kumar, Divakar, Vasu Naik, Vijay Gowda, Harish Gowda, Shivaram and Karunakar.

The police officials involved in arresting the inter-state thieves have been rewarded with cash and an appreciation letter.

SP Bhushan also appreciated the support from the members of Tulu Sangha Mumbai, Suresh Shetty Guruvayanakere, Shekhar Shetty Padangady, Rajesh Shetty Manipal and Karthik Rai Golithottu in nabbing the accused in Mumbai.

Theft cases have been registered by the temple authorities from Panchalingeshwar Temple, Eshwarmangala, Puttur Shree Panchalingeshwar temple, Belthangady, Shree Durgaparameshwari Temple Belthangady, Shree Vishnumurthy Temple Savanoor, Puttur, Sri Umamaheshwari Temple Balya Gram, Puttur, Shri Ananthapadmanabha temple Ramakunja, Puttur, Sri Ullalthi Amma Temple Rayi Bantwal, Shree Durgaparameshwari Temple Adyapadi Mangaluru and Shree Subramanya Temple, Mangaluru.
