Bengaluru: This is probably an age when most dancers prefer being spectators. Deva Nahata has been giving back to back performance three years in a row now. In her latest feat, she is matching pace with her 13-year-old granddaughter. Some of the compositions are poems which Deva Nahata has written herself. The event is hosted in Bangalore’s historic and premier stage Chowdiah Memorial Hall. The event is scheduled for Dec 21, 2017, at 6:30 pm.
Deva Nahata, always wanted her granddaughter, Chhavi to learn Bharatanatyam and pair up with her for a performance. Chhavi has always been inspired by her grandmother and it’s a dream come true for her to perform alongside her inspiration.
Deva Jitendra Nahata is a prolific writer, poet, singer and a Bharatnatyam dancer. She is the student of Guru. K M Raman. Under the guidance of his daughter Guru Sathyavathi Suresh, Devaji performed her first Nitya Abhinaya in 2010 at the age of 60.
She received the Brahmi Kala Award from Vihar Manch, Kolkata in 2012. She performed “Bhavabhinaya” in 2015 choreographed by Bharathi Vittal, which was an unusual blend of Hindi poetic compositions, some of them written by Nahata and choreographed in the Bharatnatyam dance form.
Last year she did “Swapnaakaar” – living the dream of dancing feet with a fellow student Meenakshi Thakor, under the guidance of Bharatiji Vittal. This was an energy-packed performance by two senior citizens both 60 and above.
Chhavi Nahata is the daughter of Darshana and Pratik Nahata. She is a class 8 student at Bishop cottons girls school. She has been learning Bharatnatyam since the age of 7 under Bharatji Vittal. She has been learning Western Ballet since the age of 4 and performed as the lead in Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty. Chhavi is also an excellent student and an all-rounder in academics. Nritya Sangam will satiate the appetite of the pure form dance lovers and garner appreciation from one and all based on the sheer energy and passion these two dancers bring on stage.
