Puttur Gang Rape Case, Accused Remanded to 14 Days Judicial custody

Mangaluru: Five of the accused in the Puttur College student gang-rape case have been remanded to 14 days Judicial custody on July 4.

The arrested Gurunandan alias Radhakrishna (19), from Puttur, Prajwal alias Nagesh Naik (19) from Perne Bantwal, Kishan alias Sadashiv (19) from Bantwal, Sunil alias Kanthappa Gowda (19) from Puttur and Prakyath alias Subbanna Shetty (19) from Bantwal were produced before the court on July 4, where they have been remanded to 14 days judicial custody.

During the last week of March 2019, all the accused Gurunandan, Prajwal, Kishan, Sunil and Prakyath had forcibly taken the girl student from their college to a remote area giving her a drink laced with drugs. Later they had raped her and recorded the act on their mobile.

On July 3, the same video was circulated in the social media and the Puttur police had filed a Suo-Motu case. The girl had also filed a case against the accused. On July 3, evening all the five accused were arrested by the Puttur police.

The SP of Dakshina Kannada should be commended for the initiative in nabbing the accused in a matter of a few hours after the video was circulated. On July 4, eight more persons were arrested by the police in connection with circulating the video on social media.

The investigation is still on in this case.
