Aam Aadmi Party-DK Questions the Working of EC on Following Issues?

Aam Aadmi Party – Dakshina Kannada (AAP-DK) QUESTIONS THE WORKING OF ELECTION COMMISSION IN PREPARATION AND PUBLICATION OF ELECTORAL ROLLS FOR THE KARNATAKA SOUTH-WEST TEACHER’S CONSTITUENCY

Mangaluru: Addressing the media persons during a press meet held at Mangalore Press Club, K.P.Rajendra Kumar , AAP DK Convenor, joined by Hasanabba —AAP Volunteer on the dais said, ” The final electoral roll (dated 19th Jan 2018) for the Karnataka South West Teacher Constituency was published by Election Commission and was made available Online for all. From April 1st Week, Election Commission has removed the same from the public domain and is now not available for view. While there are no definite reasons given by the election commission for their action, it was understood by many that there is likely to be a revision to the electoral rolls”.

AAP-DK is demanding an explanation from Election commission for the following:

1. Last date for receiving the completed application forms from the registered teachers was 7th December 2017. Based on all the application received, final electoral roll was published by election commission on 19th Jan 2018. When the election is likely to be in May/June 2018, why was the electoral rolls removed from the public domain?

2. Till date, election commission has not called for fresh applications from the teachers who might have missed out in Nov – Dec 2017. Election commission to confirm that the electoral rolls will remain the same and no new additions voters as all applications received till 7th December has been included in the voters list.

3. Many colleges have submitted their teaching staff applications in bulk to the election commission. It has come to the notice of the AAP that very few, from the submitted lot, are registered while many of them are missing. Election commission to confirm that they have enrolled all the application received till 7th December 2017.

4. While there is strict guidance from the election commission that no third party can submit the application of the teachers, many political parties and their agents have approached the educational institutions for facilitating the voter’s registrations. It is also noted that election commission officials are not acknowledging the applications received by giving back the signed/stamped acknowledgement form. Election commission to confirm that their staffs are duly acknowledging the applications forms received and is not entertaining the political parties and their agents.

5. Many teachers are complaining that their name do not appear on the electoral rolls even though they have submitted the forms. Some have submitted twice and thrice. But still they do not find their names. It is unfortunate that they have not collected their acknowledgement forms as they trusted the election commission office. At the same time it is the duty of the concerned officials to hand over them the acknowledgement forms. AAP regrets the missing of the many teachers in the voters list which may be because of the working style of election commission.

It is the responsibility of the constitution agency to ensure that the right of teachers to choose their representative. Election commission to confirm that their staffs are following the guidelines set before the officials, handing over the duly signed and stamped acknowledgment to the applications received and no single teacher is deprived of his right to vote.

6. Any addition to the final voters list will provide an opportunity for the manipulation of the voters by vested groups and hence the credibility of election commission. AAP strongly objects to the revision of current final voters list.

“AAP- DK has registered a complaint with the public grievance redressal officer vide email No: AAP/Complaint/001 dated 14th April 2018 and has marked the copy to all relevant officials including the local authority – Deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada. A hard copy of the complaint was also submitted to DC office for records. Till date there is no response from the election commission on this subject.” added Rajendra Kumar
