After death rumours, Lata Mangeshkar’s family clarifies she is fine and getting better

Mumbai (Times Now): Indian cinema’s legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar was hospitalised on Monday, November 11 after she complained of breathlessness. Earlier today, hospital sources said that she is showing “signs of improvement” but will take “time to recover”. However, rumours of her passing away have made their way to social media and many have started putting up posts addressing the same.

To clarify the rumours, a statement has been released. It reads, “Lata didi is stable and getting better. Request to please do not heed to needless rumours and react. Let us all collectively pray for her long life instead.”

Mangeshkar, 90, was admitted to the Breach Candy Hospital earlier this week. Taking about the singer’s health, a hospital insider told PTI, “She is showing some signs of improvement but it will take time for her to recover. She has pneumonia and chest infection. Any person suffering from it takes time to recover from it.”

Meanwhile, in an earlier statement, Mangeshkar’s family had said that she has fought so well that she is coming out of this setback. “Being a singer, her lung capacity has pulled her through. Truly a fighter. We will update everyone when Lataji gets discharged and comes home,” the statement read.

After the news of her hospitalisation, many prominent celebrities including Hema Malini, Shabana Azmi, Adnan Sami and Poonam Dhillon took to social media to pray for Mangeshkar’s speedy recovery. Even fans have been putting up posts and praying for her smooth recovery and wellbeing.

Considered one of the greatest playback singers in Indian cinema, Mangeshkar has sung over 30,000 songs across languages in her career spanning over seven decades. Her last full Hindi album was for the late filmmaker Yash Chopra-directed 2004 film Veer-Zaara. The Nightingale of Bollywood received the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour, in 2001.
