Anand Mahindra Gifts SUV to Krishna Kumar for taking his Mom on Nation Wide Pilgrimage Tour by Scooter

Anand Mahindra, the Chairman of Mahindra Group Gifts Mahindra KUV 100 NXT SUV to Dakshina Murthy Krishna Kumar from Mysuru for taking his Mom on Nation Wide Pilgrimage Tour by Scooter.

Mangaluru : Ever since Yours Truly of Team Mangalorean had met D Murthy Krishna Kumar of Mysuru at Ramakrishna Mission, Mangaluru when he had stayed there for few days on his pilgrimage tour, taking his mother on his 10-year-old Bajaj Chetak scooter, Team Mangalorean had done a exclusive report “To Mom With Love! Son takes Mother on a 28K Km ‘Mathru Seva Sankalpa Yatra’ on Scooter” on 29 November 2018, since then Murthy has been constantly keeping in touch with me either through phone calls or whatsapp messages- and last night he called me to tell me about some good news, which is revealed below-

Dakshinmurthy Krishna Kumar from Mysore left his banking job to take his mom on a pilgrimage. That news tugged at the heartstrings of many, including business tycoon Anand Mahindra, the Chairman of Mahindra Group. When Kumar’s septuagenarian mother wanted to visit Hampi, he decided to quit his job and take her on a lengthy yatra of holy places, and he had started his pilgrimage from his hometown, Mysuru on 16 January 2018.. He took off on his 20-year-old Bajaj Chetak scooter with his mother riding pillion. Covering thousands of kilometers, the mother-son duo had eventually traveled through many states – Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Maharashtra. And at the moment the Mom and Son duo are in Arunachal Pradesh.

Kumar’s story and a video capturing a part of his journey made its way onto Twitter and the clip is now being shared by many. While doing its rounds, it has managed to capture the attention of Anand Mahindra, who read the story posted by one person named, Manoj, who is now keen on finding Kumar because he wants to gift a car to him. In his tweet, Anand Mahindra states, ” A beautiful story. About the love for a mother but also about the love for a country… Thank you for sharing this Manoj. If you can connect him to me, I’d like to personally gift him a Mahindra KUV 100 NXT so he can drive his mother in a car on their next journey”.

In 2018 Dec, 28 -year-old Shilpa, aka ‘Halli Mane Rottis’ Shilpa from Mangaluru, also received a Mahindra Bolero pick-up vehicle as an ‘investment’ in her venture by Mahindra Group chairman Anand Mahindra.

Since being shared the message a few hours back, the post has created quite a stir among people. Till now, it has gathered over 5 lakh views – and still counting. It has also amassed more than 7,000 likes and about 1,800 retweets. While People couldn’t stop applauding Anand Mahindra’s gesture, there were also several who showed appreciation for Kumar. Last year in December, 28 -year-old Shilpa, aka ‘Halli Mane Rottis’ Shilpa from Mangaluru, who for the past two years after she started a mobile canteen at Mannagudda in the city, was thrilled when she received a Mahindra Bolero pick-up vehicle as an ‘investment’ in her venture by Mahindra Group chairman Anand Mahindra. Having read about her single-handed fight to lead a decent life on social media, Mahindra, on 28 December 2018, tweeted expressing his desire to partner with the single mother. In his words, her success gelled with “Mahindra Rise”. Mahindra Rise is a call to action, to challenge the status quo and to think alternatively to drive a positive change.

D M Krishna Kumar, having started his pilgrimage tour “Matru Seva Sankalpa Yatra” in January 2018, taking his 71-year-old mother, Chudarathana along with him, has visited most temples in Karnataka, and many other parts in India,a s well as several temples in Nepal and Bhutan. Kumar had decided to remain a bachelor so he could serve his mother, and fulfill her dreams of seeing temple across India. It is learnt that in April 2017, the mother-son duo had taken their first temple trip in a car, during which Chudarathana had carried a photograph of her husband on the trip and said it would have been nice if he had also come along. That’s when Krishna Kumar decided to take his Father’s scooter on the pilgrimage in his memory. Kumar’s father had died four years ago.

Not many who so deeply love their mothers would dare do what 40-year-old D Krishna Kumar is doing for his septuagenarian mother, taking her on a nationwide pilgrimage tour, thereby making her dreams come true Speaking about his love towards his mother, Kumar last year during my interview with him said, “Home is where your mom is, No matter your age, you always need your mom. I do what I want, when I want, where I want… if my mom says it’s Okay. I believe in love at first sight because I loved my mom since I opened my eyes. The worst sight in the world is seeing your mom cry. Happiness is seeing your mother smile. I love my mom because she gave me everything: she gave me love, she gave me her soul, and she gave me her time. Ain’t a woman alive who could take my mother’s place. First my mother, forever my friend. My mother is my best critic, and yet my strongest supporter. I couldn’t ask for a better mom. Even in your flaws, I saw perfection. And I wanted to make her happy through this Yatra, where she could see almost every Holy places in South India” .

Anand Mahindra- Chairman of Mahindra Group

“In the joint family system, my mother’s role was confined to the kitchen until the death of my father. I decided that my mother deserves not only quality time from her only son, but also a dignified life for all the sacrifices she has made”he said.. The Hindu scriptures also emphasize on this,’’ he stressed and decided to take her not only to Belur, but to many other holy places across India. On why he opted for a two-wheeler, he said the simple mode of transport ensured door-to-door travel, and also that the Scooter was handed over to him by his father few years ago, and he thought it would be appropriate to take his mother on that scooter, which his dad used for a long time.

Mahindra KUV 100 NXT

Quoting Washington Irving “A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.” – and for that matter this son ( D M Krishna Kumar) who has shown his great love towards his mother, by taking her on a long trip to places she hasn’t seen since her birth, has now made a History, proving that a Son’s love towards a Mother is what “Men are what their mothers made them”! On a final note this is what Krishna Kumar had to say about his Mother , “To the world, you are a mother. To a family, you are the world. Mom, because of you, I am what I am today. Thank you. Moms are people who know us the best and love us the most. I look to my mom for advice, inspiration, and love. That’s the way it should be. I hope other children also show their love, care and respect to their parents” .

Don’t know who gets more ‘mileage’ from the reportage – Bajaj, for the 20 year old Chetak scooter, which had no problem making the lo…ng 48,100 kms journey, or Anand Mahindra for his free offer of a KUV 100 NXT car.
I think Anand Mahindra could be a bit more generous, and gift D. Krishna Kumar a XUV 300 W4, which would be a far more comfortable car for the 71 year old lady to travel in, for the remaining part of the tour.
