Cheryl drops the name Fernandez-Versini

Los Angeles, April 20 (IANS) Singer Cheryl has reportedly chosen to drop her surname after a row with estranged husband Jean-Bernard Fernandez Versini.

The 32-year-old will only be known by her first name now and she has booked her first public appearance under her mononymous moniker, reports mirror.co.uk.

“Cheryl wants to wipe the slate clean and start afresh with a new name, now the divorce is going through,” a source said.

“Things turned pretty nasty over the weekend, with both Cheryl and JB making comments on social media. So from hereon in, she will just be known as Cheryl,” the insider added.

The singer will receive an award at the Global Gift Gala in Paris next month from actress Eva Longoria.

“Her last album in 2014 was released under the name ‘Cheryl’, too, but everyone still called her by her new married name,” the source said.

“This time around, everyone is under strict instructions that she is just Cheryl, nothing else. Organisers at next month’s event were told that all announcements of Cheryl’s attendance should only refer to her as Cheryl.”

Bruce, Michael to star in ‘King Lear’ adaptation

Los Angeles, April 20 (IANS) Actors Bruce Dern, Anthony Michael Hall and Sean Astin are starring in “The Lears”, a comic adaptation of William Shakespeare’s “King Lear”.

It’s the first in-house production for distributor NeoClassics Films and has started production in Malibu and other parts of Los Angeles, reports variety.com.

Aly Michalka, Victoria Smurfit and Nic Bishop are also starring.

Carl Bessai is directing his own script. NeoClassics Films’ CEO Irwin Olian is producing it in association with Bessai’s Raven West Films Ltd. NeoClassics will also serve as the film’s international sales agent.

“Carl’s script is a smart, modern day derivative of Shakespeare’s ‘King Lear’,” said Olian.

“In the classic play, the old King wanted each of his three daughters to prove their love so that he could determine who was most worthy of his kingdom. In our modern spin, iconic architect Davenport Lear has created a family retreat — also to test the love of each of his children as he is contemplating his future,” he added.

The script focusses on world-renowned cutting-edge architect Davenport Lear played by Dern.

Nearing retirement, he summons his four dysfunctional children: Glenn (Hall), Regan (Michalka), Kent (Bishop) and Rory (James Hoare) and their spouses Tyler (Stephen Ellis), Tom Cornwall (Astin), Delia (Ivy Matheson) and Natalie (Amy Argyle).

Justin Bieber slams his dreadlocks haters

Los Angeles, April 20 (IANS) Singer Justin Bieber has slammed his haters who have been dissing his dreadlocks.

The “What do you mean” singer took to Instagram to criticise his haters and said that he didn’t like them, reports aceshowbiz.com.

The 23-year-old singer posted a video featuring himself defending his dreadlocks, which he unveiled at the iHeartRadio Awards earlier this month.

In the video, Bieber lay on a bed wearing a white T-shirt. He impersonated someone who criticised his new hairstyle, saying, “Dude, are you gonna do anything with your hair, or are you just going to leave it like that?”

“Yeah, some girl came up to me and she was like, ‘I love you, Justin, but, like, that’s, like, my least favorite hairstyle of yours’,” he added.

Judging from his reaction, it looked like the pop star wasn’t too annoyed with it.

“Being weird is fun. If you are not weird I don’t like you,” he captioned the video.
