Arya Samaj Condemns Attack on Swami Agnivesh in Jharkhand

Mangaluru: “The former national president of Arya Samaj and social activist Swami Agnivesh was assaulted by a mob in Jharkhand which the Mangaluru unit of Arya Samaj strongly condemns. Swami Agnivesh is a social activist and has been working for the welfare of the tribal community for decades. Swami Agnivesh lives on the principles of Swami Dayanand Saraswati. The central government and the Jharkhand government should take strict action against the attackers and arrest them under the goonda act”, said the President of Arya Samaj Mangaluru Unit, Dinakar Shetty in a press meet held at the Arya Samaj Mandir, Balmatta here on July 18.

Addressing the mediapersons Dinakar Shetty said, “When Swami Agnivesh arrived in Jharkhand to attend a programme in Pakur, he was attacked by a mob. The Supreme Court had just said that citizens cannot take the law into their hands, but the very next day 80-year-old Swami Agnivesh was attacked by a mob. If the accused will not be punished under the goonda act, there will be danger for citizens in this country. There is an allegation that Swami Agnivesh is converting the people to Christianity and supporting beef eaters. But being a Swami how can he convert people to Christianity and support Beef eaters? this is far from the truth.”

Dinakar further said, “On July 21, a statewide protest will be held by Arya Samaj. During the protest, we will hand over a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Jharkhand through the DC. Both the governments should take strict action against the accused and arrest all those involved in the assault of Swami Agnivesh. If no action will be taken we will intensify our protest nationwide. We have 62 Units of Arya Samaj in Karnataka”.

When asked being a Swamiji how will he convert people to Christianity, Dinakar said, “The allegations are baseless. Swami Agnivesh is a peace-loving person and it is a surprise that he was attacked by the mob. On July 21, at 11:00 am, Arya Samaj Mangaluru Unit will hold a protest in front of the DC office demanding the arrest of all the accused under the goonda act.”

Treasurer of Arya Samaj Anand Shetty, Members Indranath, Deepak Manjeshwar, Dhananjay Arya, Harinakshi and Lokesh Thokkottu were also present.

Such false case has not so far been reported in any police station. His drama has far exceeded drama of Kejariwal who frequently slapped himself in public through auto drivers. How it is possible that an old person of 78 years of age is assaulted by more than 20 armed persons and doesn’t get even a scratch? Even on normal slipping on road one may get a fracture. But attackers (?) carefully laid him on road to avoid any scratch or soiling his clothes.
