Atrocities against Dalits and Women has increased during Modi Rule – Veerappa Moily

Udupi: Former Chief Minister Veerappa Moily on Friday attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government at the Centre, alleging atrocities against Dalits and women have increased under the BJP rule.

Speaking at a press meet held at Hotel Kidiyoor on May 4 night, Veerappa Moily claimed that crimes are being committed against the Dalits and women in the BJP ruled states and a maximum number of cases of atrocities have been reported from Uttar Pradesh. He alleged that employment opportunities for Dalits have also reduced as compared to the former UPA government’s rule and held the BJP responsible for attacks on the minority community.

The Congress, led by Siddaramaiah, has ensured that the Karnataka government is politically, financially and socially stable, unlike governments between 2008 and 2013. There have been no scams or scandals and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has been able to take the party along with him.

We have prepared a people’s manifesto with emphasis on how to transform their lives. We want Karnataka to be No 1 in terms of development, investment, job creation, IT/ BT so that it transforms their lives right from Anganwadi until pre-university and higher education. We want all sections of society to move forward. The manifesto focused on their all-round development with programmes revolving around education, scholarships, economic upliftment and to raise the standard of living.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is speaking about corruption and his same saffron party has given seven tickets in the state to the Reddy brothers. Moily also defended Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s decision to contest from both Chamundeshwari and Badami constituencies and said, “He will win both the constituencies easily with a big margin. Siddaramaiah contesting from north Karnataka is a shot in the arm for our party in the region,” he said.

Moily expressed confidence that the Congress would win over 130 seats. “This is my gut feeling that is in line with our internal surveys and public perception because Congress has brought stability and done inclusive development. The Congress will win all the eight seats in Dakshina Kannada and all five seats in Udupi district.”

Rajyasabha member Oscar Fernandes, MLC Prathapchandra Shetty, Karkala Congress candidate Gopal Bhandary, Congress leaders G A Bava, M A Gafoor, Janardhan Tonse, Dinesh Putran, Dominque P and others were present.
