Auto drivers Thrash 2 Manipal Students for Drunken Behaviour on Road in City

Two students from Manipal- one pursuing his studies in Medicine, and other Engineering, were literally thrashed by Auto Drivers for their Drunken Behaviour near Dr Ambedkar Circle/Jyothi Circle-Mangaluru

Mangaluru: This is what happens when you have a few extra shots of Tequilas or Sambucas or Jagger Bombs (jagermeister), and added to that have a few puffs/drags of dope-and then get totally wasted and indulge in unruly acts in a drunken spree- get thrashed by the public for their behaviour. For two students from Manipal, one pursuing his studies in Medicine, and the other in Engineering, who had come down to Mangaluru to have some revelry time at the local pubs/lounges on Balmatta Road-Mangaluru, it wasn’t a happy ending after partying whole night, thereby going a little overboard by indulging in bad behaviour in the middle of the road near Jyothi Circle- and later get bashed by the public, including a bunch of auto-drivers.

It was around past 10:00 pm, on Tuesday 23 January night, that these two youngsters had walked down from their partying place (pub/lounge) on Balmatta Road, till Dr Ambedkar Circle/Jyothi circle and standing in the middle of the road trying to stop every vehicle that passed by to give them a ride to Manipal- while a few motorists tried to avoid these duo by not stopping, but a few auto-rickshaw drivers even though they stopped, were reluctant to take them, since the duo were in a bad intoxicated state. The behaviour of these two youngsters were in such a state, one wouldn’t even imagine that the duo, a prospective Doctor and a Engineer, would behave in such a manner.

Their act went out of control, when one of the student ran in front of a moving autorickshaw, and tried to stop it to give them a ride to Manipal. Imagine hiring a auto to Manipal? Oh well! The auto driver got fumed by the behaviour of this student, for intercepting his auto while moving, which could have resulted in severe injuries to the student, got out of his vehicle and literally thrashed the student. In the meantime, the other student came to the rescue- and this called for more auto drivers from the nearby auto-rickshaw park, to interfere and they too joined in thrashing both the students.

Anticipating more trouble and injuries to the students, and while the students were beaten up left to right, also kicked and pushed into the ditch/gutter, yours truly of Team Mangalorean quickly stepped in between and convinced the public to stop beating the duo, for which after much requests they agreed- and Team Mangalorean called Kadri Police to rush to the spot to handle the situation- and surprisingly the police car was at the scene within few minutes. The police brought the situation under control and transported both the students to Bunder police station. If not for the timely interference of Team Mangalorean, the two youngsters would have been thrashed heavily, resulting in gruesome injuries.

Reports from the Bunder North Police Station revealed that the tests made on these two students showed positive for alcohol but negative for drugs. The police later informed the friends of the duo, who later came to the police station and escorted both of them back to Manipal. The police also notified the parents of the 2 students, and also warned the duo not to indulge in such kind of nuisance anymore, for which they agreed.

In conclusion, as a piece of advice to the youth- We too were students during our younger days, we too had partied but never went out of control and created nuisance in public. It’s not worth to get beaten up by the public, for your foolish acts. It’s time to sober up and stay away from any such kind of trouble. Police should keep an eye on as to what’s going on at the local pubs/lounges so that the youngsters control themselves on their behaviour.

  1. A good lesson taught to such foolish students who are perhaps from out of State, enjoying life
to the core being away from home and taboos!

There is no dearth of bars and pubs to drink liquor in Manipal and Udupi, and after 9 pm there is no public transport from Mangalore city to Manipal Udupi. Wonder why these two students did not book an Uber cab or request the Pub staff to request a private cab to go back to Manipal – KMC or MIT safely and in good spirits!

There are always some students everywhere in the world who would dare cross the line to experience what most would not dare to as advised by the parents, colleagues, and most of all the Internet!

  2. While many of the onlookers simply clicked photos and uploaded in social media, and joked about the incident while the students were beaten up, it was indeed nice of Team Mangalorean Alphy Dsouza to step in and work a peaceful way out, rather than make things worse – a job well done.

Hope the students have learned a lesson now- not to get TOO drunk and make a fool out of themselves- and face all the consequences from the public.
