Cox’s Bazar (Bangladesh), Jan 30 (IANS) Bangladesh Under-19 opener Pinak Ghosh regrets his untimely dismissal against South Africa and wants to convert good starts into big scores in forthcoming matches.

Having played some spectacular shots off the Proteas pacers, the 17-year-old ran himself out for 43 in the opening match of the U-19 World Cup at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong on Wednesday, reports bdnews24.com.

“I got off to a good start in the first match but failed to capitalise on it because of a silly mistake. My dismissal also put the team in a bit of danger,” Pinak said after training at the Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium here.

“I will try not to make the same mistake if I find myself in the same position in the upcoming matches.”

Bangladesh colts cracked 19 boundaries and six sixes on their way to 240/7 on Wednesday. But they failed to rotate strike regularly that prevented them from amassing a bigger total. Both Joyraz Sheikh and Pinak were unable to rotate the strike frequently.

“Taking singles regularly relieves the pressure. Otherwise the focus turns to big shots. Coach always instructs us to keep the singles flowing… will put more effort into that from the next match,” said Pinak.

Bangladesh will take on Scotland in their second Group A match here on Sunday.

Bangladesh U-19 spinner Saha reported for illegal action

Chittagong, Jan 30 (IANS) Bangladesh youth team’s off-spinner Sanjit Saha has been reported for suspected bowling action against South Africa in the opening match of the Under-19 World Cup.

With the 43-run victory over the reigning champions still fresh in their mind, the news was a bolt from the blue for Bangladesh colts. The umpires of the match formally lodged the complaint after the game ended at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium here, reports bdnews24.com.

The 18-year-old went wicketless giving away 30 runs in eight overs against the Proteas.

He will undergo a test within the next two weeks at an ICC-approved laboratory. However, he will be able to keep bowling until the result is out, as per the rules.

Bangladesh take on Scotland in the second Group A match in Cox’s Bazar on Sunday.
