Bantwal: In a freak mishap, a young man of 19 was hit by lightning and killed him at Maindala of Navoor village in the taluk on Saturday night.
Pradeep (18), son of Umesh Madivala, was attaching the mobile charger to the plug on the wall. In the nick of time, lightning seems to have hit the power-line. As a result, high voltage current flowed into the charger and he suffered a shock.
He was rushed to a hospital but he did not survive. He had studied up to PUC and having discontinued the education had taken up a job in Mangaluru. Hailing from a poor family, he was the breadwinner. He was among the three sons his parents had.
Bantwal tahsildar Purandar Hegde visited the house and recorded the incident. He has assured the family of securing financial aid under the provisions of natural disaster relief schemes.
