Bar Waiters gone ‘Good Samaritans’- This should Shame MCC to Act

Mangaluru: These guys serve their bar clientele either for tips or no tips at all-but this time they did something different- they served the community for Free. Tired of waiting for the civic agency to fix the ups and downs around the road construction area, near Mallikatta Circle, a few bar waiters of Anchan Bar and Restaurant, and one employee of the nearby fruit stall decided to get hands dirty, where they fixed the hazardous path the best they could do. These guys joined forces for a slightly different cause. After several complaints about the pathetic state of this road in the area fell on deaf ears of civic agency officials, the these ‘Good Samaritans’ decided to level the bumps themselves. The result, smoother roads, showed just what collaborative effort can do. It is one worth emulating.

Using basic construction tools, these guys leveled the bumps and filled potholes of this critical road, which has been a nightmare for motorists, especially the two-wheelers. Many two-wheelers have already fallen off from their vehicles due to the rough and un-even surface of this road, which had been neglected by the road construction workers. Even after repeated requests to them to level the road by the local merchants and residents, no action had been taken. But thanks to these waiters who stepped forward and did something good for the community. This effort though was a departure from the usual.

When this road near the Mallikatta area was dug up recently to lay a new road, the trenches were unevenly filled with mud. As a result, the surrounding areas developed potholes and turned into a motorist’s nightmare. The problem becomes worse when it rains as the roads turned into carriageways of slush. When the MCC or the road construction crew failed to act, these bar employees got together to tackle the problem.

One bar waiter speaking to Team Mangalorean said, “Everybody complains about the problem, but few are willing to find a solution. Most people don’t know whom to complain to about bad roads and end up doing nothing. Someone here had approached the area corporator, but that was of no use, since the corporator nor MCC officials bothered to fix the problem. But except for material help, we decided not to wait for the civic agency. With support from our bar owner, and others we gained momentum, and we were able to muster enough volunteers to repair this road ourselves. We did not spend money, but only our time and effort. In future, in case we see any safety hazard towards the motorists or pedestrians, we will not beg or wait for the authorities to fix the problem, instead we will fix it ourselves”

Team Mangalorean appreciate the the “Good Work” done by these “good Samaritans” for the safety of the motorists and pedestrians. A job well done and may God bless you all for your kind service. Your social service at least should shame the MCC officials and road construction crew to act quick.
