Tulu Stage Play “Bayya Mallige” to Celebrate Golden Jubilee

Mangaluru: Bayya Mallige to celebrate Golden Jubilee on May 15, said producer Dr P Sanjeev Dandakeri in a press meet held at hotel Foodland here on May 10.

Addressing the mediapersons Dr P Sanjeev said, “In 1966, Bayya Mallige, a Tulu stage play was first played in most of the places. We have now completed 50 years of the stage play Bayya Mallige. In 1974, under the banner of Jayaram films, Bayya Mallige film was produced and released in Jyothi, and Ramakanthi talkies in Mangaluru. Film director and senior artistes Jayamala, Pandaribai and M N Laxmidevi acted in this movie which was an added advantage. Bayya Mallige has earned fame and it is a family movie.

The state government has given Rs 50,000 as honorarium towards the film. Bayya Mallige has completed 50 successful years and to celebrate this day we have organized a programme on May 15 at 5:00 PM. A DVD of the Telefilm Bayya Mallige will be released by the Mayor of MCC Harinath, Chairman of Alvas Education trust Dr Mohan Alva will inaugurate the telefilm.

The Bayya Mallige movie has been released in various languages such as Kannada, Tulu, Marathi, English and Konkani and this was the first stage play that was later made into a film in 5 languages.

On May 15, Ajith Kumar Rai Maladi will inaugurate the stage programme. Former District Minister In-charge will preside over the function. Former president of Konkani Sahitya Academy Kasargod Chinna, former President of Tulu Sahitya Academy Umanath Kotian and Manohar Prasad will be the guests of honour.

The celebration committee members V G Pal, Jagannath Shetty Bala and G Krishna Kotian Vamanjoor were also present.
