Bengaluru: He has always been known as a deft and quicksilver wicketkeeper knocking down the stumps and taking amazing catches in the nick of time and while wielding his bat blasting the bowlers left, right and centre.

Now, without being a full-time bowler, he has bowled a ‘maiden’ over. Tennis player Sheetal Gautam and Aiyuda Robin Uthappa have been friends for a long time. Tongues had wagged romantically linking them. But they reportedly remained just pals all these years.

When asked, Sheetal has just revealed that it was Robin who proposed to her recently and that at first she would not believe her ears. After making sure that it was not a joke, she was ecstatic about it. They chose to get betrothed on the very next day of Robin’s having completed 30 years of age last week.

Now they have posted their selfies in the social media. The marriage ceremony is likely to be held in ebruary 2016.

Robin joins the elite company of Rohit Sharma who got engaged to Ritika Sajdeh and Harbhajan Singh to Geeta Basra during recent months. Gone ahead of them are those who tied the knot in the recent past like Ajinkya Rahane, Suresh Raina, Yusuf Pathan, Cheteshwar Pujara, Shikhar Dhawan, Umesh Yadav and some others.

To a limited extent, cricket seems to have a ‘court’ship connection. Robin has chosen Sheetal, a tennis player as his life-partner. World renowned tennis star, Sania Mirza, opted to play doubles with Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik. Cricketer Dinesh Karthick is married to squash player Dipika Pallikal.

When Robin had gone through a bad patch in personal life and faced setbacks in his cricketing career during the past years, ‘Sheetal’ is said to have helped him to maintain his ‘cool’ and boosted his morale by remaining a steadfast friend. She is said to be inspiration for his bouncing back into form during this year.

May they have a successful innings ahead.
