Bengaluru: Conmen appear to be taking to more and more ingenious ways to make a fast buck. Ganesh Mogaveera (29), hailing from Tekkatte in Udupi district and an associate of his have been arrested by the Jayanagar police for posing as policemen and extorting money and valualble from couples from parks in the city.

He has been accused of filming unmarried couples and then posing as policemen blackmailing them for money and gold. The jewellery thus looted was being bought by Lakshmana (43) from him. In the past year, Ganesh is said to have extorted gold ornaments from eleven women from Girinagar, Tyagarajanagar, Jayanagar, Banashankari, Basavanagudi and other places.

He used 30 SIM cards to evade easy detection. This also helped in tracking him down. He is twice married and has three children. His wife is said to be residing in a house in Totadabettu in Tekkatte.

Ganesh had earlier been arrested in Hattiangadi of Kundapur taluk on charges of serial chain-snatching and come out from behind bars. He worked in a restaurant here and during leisure time wandered around parks and targeted unmarried couples.
