Bengaluru: The police have arrested a 25-year-old woman and her paramour for murdering her eight-year-old daughter by pushing her into a sump in Tavarakere police limits.

The woman, identified as Latha and her paramour Ramesh, 28, both residents of Gollarapalya near Byadaralli, started having an affair after the death of Latha’s husband.
According to the police, Latha was married to Nagaraju. She had a daughter named Smitha from him. Nagaraju died in a road accident a year ago, after which she became close to Ramesh, her family friend, said the police.

Ramesh is also married with children. His wife Kamala stays in Magadi but he would spend most of his time in Latha’s house. Smitha was irked by Ramesh’s presence and his intervention in every domestic issue. She would often urge her mother to ask Ramesh not to visit the house, said the police.

Ramesh thought that Smitha came in the way of their affair and hatched a conspiracy to murder her. Latha decided to help Ramesh, said the police. On Tuesday evening, Ramesh took her to a sump near her the house and pushed her into it. He later covered the sump, said the police.

The incident came to light on Wednesday morning and the police registered a case. A few local residents also informed the police about the affair between Latha and Ramesh. The police took the duo into custody and questioned them. They confessed to the murder during interrogation, said the police.
