BJP MLA has given Books with Pics, So Why Can’t Bava? – Corporator Kulai

Mangaluru: BJP workers had staged a protest in front of the Zilla Panchayat office in Mangaluru on 13 June opposing B A Moideen Bava, MLA from Mangaluru City North, distributing notebooks to children of government schools in his constituency with his photographs and advertisement from a real estate group in which the MLA’s brother is a partner. During the protest, addressing the gathering, Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP, alleged that the MLA has distributed the books with a political motive. The MP demanded that the books be withdrawn.

Kateel had said, “Since independence Congress was involved in the politics of polarisation of caste, creed and now it had extended this even to education. We are not against donating books to school children but oppose the intention behind it. Being the MLA since four years he hasn’t given books like this but now eyeing the coming polls he has given the books. If you distribute books without political intention, I will garland you”. In response to the protest and statements made by MP Kateel, Congress leader and Corporator Prathibha Kulai addressed the media persons during a press meet held at Mangalore press club.

Kulai said, “I want to ask MP Nalin Kumar Kateel to comment on the distribution of notebooks by Hebbal legislator Narayanaswamy with the BJP symbol, and photos of the MLA and his wife printed on the books. The MP had objected to and criticised MLA B A Moideen Bava for distributing notebooks to children at all schools in his constituency with his photographs printed on them. But how about MLA Narayanaswamy donating books with personal photos. This is not the first time that MLA Bava has donated books -he has been distributing notebooks in the past. There is no political motive in it. There are no photographs of development works initiated by the MLA in the notebooks as alleged by the BJP. There are only photographs of the MLA with the schoolchildren on the books”.

The corporator further said, “The notebooks are useful for the school children. Children do not exercise the franchise. Further, the photographs were printed to ensure that children have fair knowledge on their local legislator. If the BJP leaders want, they too can distribute notebooks and umbrellas to school children. Bava will distribute notebooks to the needy students from not only his constituency but also other parts of the district. Using the schools and children for political gains is inhuman. If anyone wishes to get notebooks, he or she can contact the MLA’s office”.
