Body of Sathish Kochu Shetty, aged 46, hailing from Padil-Mangaluru, who died in a fire accident at a Oil Refinery Company in Kuwait on 14 June 2020, to arrive by the FIRST Kuwait-Mangaluru Charter Flight in order to expatriate Kannadigas on Jazeera Airways on 17 June at 5.30 pm-Thanks to the members of Kuwait Kerala Muslim Association (KKMA)- Karnataka Branch for their efforts in arranging this charter flight. The Jazeera Repatriation flight for passengers in Kuwait is the FIRST one to land in Mangaluru from Kuwait.
Mangaluru: Recalling the incident- a resident of Padil, Mangaluru, Sathish Kochu Shetty, aged 46, working at a Oil Refinery in Kuwait, succumbed to injuries on Sunday, 14 June 2020, due to a fire accident that took place on 11 June 2020. Sathish breathed his last after being admitted and getting treatment at a Kuwait hospital, since three days. As per reports from Kuwait , Sathish who was working in a drilling tower of Al-Sabriya Refinery in Kuwait, died after three days due to burn injuries, after a fire accident at the plant. One more employee working with him was seriously injured, and getting treatment. As per reports of Kuwait Oil Company, the accident took place at dawn on 11 June due to sudden ignition of accompanying gases during drilling operations in the tower, which resulted in a limited fire.

Reports indicate that Sathish Shetty was pronounced dead around 12.30 pm on Sunday, 14 June. Following Sathish’s death, KOC had stressed on the keenness of the safety of their workers and the continuity of the Company’s operations, pointing to the formation of a committee to investigate the circumstances of the accident. Earlier speaking to Team Mangalorean, Pratham Shetty, the nephew of Sathish had said that Sathish who has been working in Kuwait from the last seven years, two years ago had joined Al-Sabriya Refinery. “He is survived by his mother, sister and her husband and their kids here in Mangaluru- and has a younger brother, his wife and children in Kuwait. Sathish’s younger brother in Kuwait is trying to make arrangements to bring Sathish’s body to Mangaluru by flight, since there is one plane scheduled to Mangaluru from Kuwait on Wednesday, 17 June. If everything goes on well, we will cremate Sathish’s body here in Mangaluru, if not it will be buried in Kuwait” had said Pratham. It is now learnt that two family members will receive the body of Sathish Shetty at the Mangaluru International Airport after arrival, and after certain formalities, the body will be cremated at Shakthinagar Crematorium. Sources reveal that with the help of Kuwait Kerala Muslim Association (KKMA), who call themselves the “Magnate Group” had put in great efforts in getting all the paper work and documents ready, in order to ferry the body of Sathish Shetty to Mangaluru by today’s Jazeera Airways flight. The Association in a statement had said “Kuwait Kerala Muslim Association (KKMA)- Karnataka Branch wants to offer flight services for expatriate Kannadigas. This is only a preliminary registration and you will be officially notified of further instructions for destination and date. All services are subject to the decisions and regulations of the India-Kuwait governments”.
Sources reveal that the KKMA has made arrangements for the repatriation of 160 passengers on board Jazeera Airways, and travel agent is Akbar Travels. And as part of the mandatory quarantine required for all the passengers, the hotel bookings for a period of seven days after arrival in Mangaluru has already been done at the Kuwait Airport, prior to the departure.
