Rio de Janeiro, Jan 3 (IANS) Bolivian footballer Damian Lizio has joined two-time Brazilian Serie A champions Botafogo on a year-long loan.

Botafogo will have the option of securing the 26-year-old on a permanent deal from La Paz outfit Bolivar in December, reports Xinhua.

“I am happy and motivated by this opportunity to play in a country where football is so competitive. I will have a chance to be a part of a historic club in a team that will challenge for the title. I go there with a dream of continuing to develop my career and I hope to show them what I’m capable of,” Lizio said.

Argentina-born Lizio has been capped six times for Bolivia since making his international debut in 2014.

Botafogo have already made six new signings since earning promotion to Brazil’s top-flight by winning the Serie B title last month. Four of those are foreigners — Joel Carli (Argentina), Pedro Larrea (Ecuador), Gervasio Nunez (Argentina) and Lizio.
