Mangaluru: “à Votre santé” (French)! “ура”(Russian); Salud (Mexican); “Prost (German);干杯 Gānbēi (Chinese);في صحتك Fi Sihitik (Arabic)- all these languages mean “CHEERS”, and it goes to MARTINY for their recent great achievement. Talk about Flair Bartending, and for that matter, ‘Martiny’ – the FIRST and TOP of the professional Bartending organization to start in Mangaluru in 2009, has added yet another feather to its cap by entering into the ‘India Book of Records’ for the MOST BARTENDERS FLARING AT THE SAME TIME WITH 44 BARTENDERS, both Boys (39) and Girls (5) during a Dental Conference Party held at the The City Beech, Bolar, Mangaluru on 17 November 2018. The record was achieved at City Beach, Bolar, Mangaluru on 17 November 2018. The certificate stating about the achievement was received on 12 January 2019.

Explaining about their achievement and flaring, Joseph Crasta, one of the partners of Martiny Mangaluru during a press meet held at Hotel Maya International, Mangaluru said, “Flair bartending is the practice of expert, trained bartenders entertaining guests or audiences with the manipulation of bar tools (for example cocktail shakers) and liquor bottles in tricky, dazzling ways. Used occasionally in cocktail bars, the action requires skills commonly associated with jugglers. The same trick was used during our record making day where 44 bartenders carried out tricky maneuvers with liquors at the same time. This made our entry into Indian Books of Records for Most Bartenders Flaring At The Same Time”.

Vinod Kumar, the other partner of Martiny said, “Serving a couple of rounds of straight drinks in functions was once a matter of prestige, especially for the families in one of the Christian community. Open bars – counters where the supply of liquor is uninterrupted – gradually replaced this culture. Fast forward a few years, cocktail/mocktail counters are now a much sought after option in coastal and Silicon city- Bengaluru. Though the trend in the selection of beverages for family functions has changed gradually, the appetite for mixed drinks started roughly about a decade ago. Martiny had also set up a bar counter at the mehndi ceremony of Sandalwood actors Yash and Radhika Pandit. It has served also in the ceremonies of Indian-born business tycoon in Gulf BR Shetty, and many others”.

“Of late, a lot of youths have been making theirs in bartending and have been serving at well-known restaurants and hotels across. Apart from it, Martiny also conducts classes in bartending at reputed hotel management colleges to youngsters. Martiny was founded in the year 2009, as a professional bartending organisation, based in Mangaluru, which became popular in the southern part of Karnataka. We specialize in providing all kinds of bar services for various functions and events. We are committed to providing fully equipped bar with professional bartenders who studied in well-known institutes of India. Many of the students trained under us have found jobs in reputed hotels/restaurants and also on cruise ships, around the world. One of our student Hemraj Shettigar recently found a job at a resort in the Maldives” added Vinod.

During the press meet, there was an audio-video presentation of the Bartenders Flaring during the event at The City Beach on 17 November 2018, followed by bartending Flare demonstration/juggling, which was applauded by the journos. Ms Shalet Crasta, wife of Joseph Crasta was also present on the dais during the press meet.

About FLARE BARTENDING:

Flair bartending is the practice of bartenders entertaining guests, clientele or audiences with the manipulation of bar tools (e.g. cocktail shakers) and liquor bottles in tricky, dazzling ways. Used occasionally in cocktail bars, the action requires skills commonly associated with jugglers. It has become a sought-after talent among venue owners and marketers to help advertise a liquor product or the opening of a bar establishment.

Flair bartending is sometimes referred to as “extreme bartending” or contracted to “flairtending”. The word flair became popular among practitioners in the mid-1990’s. “Flair” is also used as a verb (e.g. “to flair”), referring to any trickery used by a bartender in order to entertain guests while mixing a drink. Flair can include juggling, flipping (bottles, shakers), manipulating flaming liquors or even performing close-up magic tricks (also referred to as “bar-magic”).

Flair is showmanship added to bartending that enhances the overall guest experience. The ideas behind mixology and drink-oriented or service-minded bartending can still be upheld with the correct application of working flair. Recently, there is a noticeable rise in bartenders combining prominent mixology knowledge and working flair skills all over the world. Working flair and Exhibition flair are very similar on the grounds that they both require precision and practice, however, the use of exhibition flair has become a competition oriented style where significantly greater risks are being taken. Working flair, which is much more common, focuses more on delivering drinks to customers while still ensuring visual entertainment.

There are different styles of flair bartending competitions. Legends of Bartending World Bartender Championships test the bartender on four disciplines of bartending, accuracy, speed, working flair and exhibition flair. The Blue Blazer and Independent Flair League (IFL) in Poland rewards flair and mixology together; competitors gain points for both flair and creative mixology. NATIONS International Flair Challenge and other competitions like Roadhouse World Flair, MBA, Athens Flair Open feature pure exhibition flair where the biggest and best moves are shown.
