City’s Tallest Skyscraper ‘Planet SKS’ Inaugurated

Mangaluru: While ‘International Women’s Day’ was celebrated few days ago, it was very befitting that the promoters of State’s, as well as City’s residential skyscraper “Planet SKS” solicited the blessings of their mothers to inaugurate this magnificent and magnanimous structure. It’s true that Mothers who us life, never ask for anything in return. That is their secret you know, always giving without any expectations. They are as constant as the sunrise, the moon, the stars, and many a times we count on them. Mothers helps us find our way through the years and makes us laugh while doing it. There are some things only a mother can do. And I would like to compliment Shashi Kiran Shetty-the principle promoter, and his co-promoter and architect of ‘Planet SKS’ for being thoughtful and appreciative what their mothers have done to them, by having them inaugurate Mangaluru’s landmark on Saturday,12 March 2016 at 5pm.

Shashi Kiran Shetty’s mother Smt Susheela J Shetty and his mother-in-law, Smt Leelavathi S Hegde inaugurated the Block A and Block B respectively, while mother of Sanath Kumar Shetty, Smt Vimala S Shetty inaugurated the C Block, of ‘Planet SKS’, amidst the loud cheering of their family members, well-wishers and friends. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLC Ivan D’Souza and State minister Ramanath Rai, along with other politicians and VIPs graced the inaugural session. Although the inaugural session lasted only for a short ending with a high-tea, the real celebration started at 8pm with more guests arriving to join the promoters and their families in the inaugural bash.

Susir Kumar, the Managing Director and CEO of Intelenet Global Services-Mumbai and a very close friend of Shashi Kiran Shetty, who had bought the first flat in ‘Planet SKS’ shared his thoughts, followed by Mangaluru’s renowned Orthopaedic surgeon Dr Shantharam Shetty, who also has a flat in ‘Planet SKS’ also shared his views on Kudla and the growth of this education city. Other persons who also spoke during the occasion were Balakrishna Hegde- a builder, DB Mehta- builder and President of Credai-Mangaluru, and entrepreneur Umar TK -they all complimented the efforts put in by Shashi Kiran Shetty and Sanath Kumar Shetty.

Co-partner and architect of ‘Planet SKS’ while proposing the vote of thanks expressed his sincere gratitude to all who those made his dream come true, including the site engineers and workers. Speaking to, Shashi Kiran Shetty, who is the CEO of Allcargo Logistics in Mumbai smilingly said, ” Now I have a option to heli-hop between my soon to be built house on the property of Bollywood star Rajesh Khanna that I bought on Carter road-Mumbai to my penthouse on this property (Planet SKS) in Kudla. I am a son of DK and I love Mangaluru my hometown, and will be visiting this coastal town frequently”. Speaking also to, Viashanth Shetty, son of Shahshi K Shetty said, ” I am really proud om father and his achievements. This project is indeed a dream come true for him. Although my future career is not much connected with construction, but I will follow in the footsteps of father in the career that I am at the helm. Mangaluru is a great city, and I feel proud to be a Mangalorean”.

The inaugural bash comprised of entertainment with instrumental music on Saxophone-organ-flute by a renowned artist from Hyderabad, Mandoline Classical tunes. By child prodigy-Master Sadgun Aithal of Puttur, and a skit “Tulunadu Samskrithi” staged by Dayanand and troupe. The function was compered by Sahil and Rudolph Rodrigues.

About ‘Planet SKS’:

Built at a cost of 175 crores on a 4.55 acres plot on NH 17 near KPT/near to Kadri Park, the 125 meters tall distinctive three-wing designer structure, with 36 floors comprises as many as 171 units with 420 covered car parks for the residents and 30 for the visitors. In a refreshing approach, ‘planet sks’ has devoted nearly 38,000 sq ft toward clubhouse, health club, gymnasium and spa. The building will have 126 (from ground floor-20th floor) 3 bed units (3300 sft), and 45 (from 21st floor-36th floor) 4 bed units (6600 sft). Total build-up area is 9,20,000sft.

Construction highlights:

With Larsen and Toubro Ltd as the contractor, the structure is built with Aluminium Form-work Technology (100% RCC structure), and excavated granite has been reused in all common areas of the building. Floor to floor height is 10’6″, and the building has 7 Mitsubishi lifts, with 100% generator backup during power failure. There is also one custom-built lift for emergency medical services, with ambulance access. Specially custom-designed aluminium window structure has been used, with toughened glass for all windows, and also toughened and laminated glass for balcony railing.

Club House:

The Club House features a Floodlit Tennis Court, Indoor Badminton Court, Squash Court, Basketball Court, Billiards, Carom, Table Tennis, Yoga Room, and Gym. The Club also has a Golf Simulator and swimming pools (for adults and children), Meeting hall, Cinema Theatre, Jogging and Skating Track- including a Super Market, Coffee Shop, with a Outdoor landscaped terrace area.


The building has 100 CCTV cameras for security surveillance, dedicated monitoring and data acquisition system, automated access control system and Biometric lock.

Green Initiatives and Renewable Energy:

The structure is installed with solar and wind mill- with complete power-generation source for the interior and exterior common areas, Solar water heaters and active system heat pump for temperature control, LED light fixtures has been used all over the common areas and landscape, Reduced energy consumption as all units are oriented to maximize natural ventilation, Active water management, 100% grey water recycling, Sewage treatment plant-entire sewage treated on site; Automated organic waste converter ; Rain water harvesting, up to 80% self sufficiency, Sustainable green design, Orchard Garden; and 20,000 sft green lawn.


In conclusion, the dream of SKS Netgate LLP to implement self-sustaining greenery to restore the habitats of plant, bird and animal life in the 4.55 acres of land has materialized, with 90% of open space contributed to conservation at ‘planet SKS by the promoters.
