Classical Music to the Ears at ‘Panchamada Inchara – Viveka Smruthi’

Classical Music to the Ears at Panchamada Inchara – Viveka Smruthi – an Annual Music Festival as tribute to Swami Vivekananda held at Sri Ramakrishna Math-Mangaluru on Sunday, 16 October 2016 from 6.30 am till 7.30 pm.

Mangaluru: For music buffs who liked variety of Classic Music, ‘ Panchamada Inchara-Viveka Smruthi’ Music Fest at Sri Ramakrishna Math-Mangaluru was enjoyed by them from the early morning hours of 6.30 am until 7.30 pm on Sunday, 16 October, 2016, where a bevy of artists performed Hindustani Classical Music to the best of their abilities, and enthralled the audience throughout the day and evening. “Panchamada Inchara – Viveka Smruthi”, an Annual Music Festival was a tribute to Swami Vivekananda.

The Classical Music Fest was inaugurated by lighting the traditional lamp by The Swami Jitakamanandji Adhyaksha- Ramakrishna Math, Mangaladevi, Mangaluru, along with other dignitaries on the dais namely- Magician Shankar Junior – President Chiranthana Charitable Trust, Surathkal; S L Ganapathi, AGM Corporation Bank Mangaluru; Ganapathi Bhat Hasanagi, Hindustani classical vocalist; Captain Ganesh Karnik, MLC; and Tejeswi Shankar Jr, the President of Chiranthana Charitable Trust (R), a Home for the Aged and Disabled at Surathkal.

Chiranthana Charitable Trust (R) has been organizing this Annual Music Festival since 2012, and this day long National level Music Festival (biennial) has been attracting Music Lovers from all over DK and nearby districts. Sri Ramakrishna Math,Mangaluru and the “Panchamada Inchara Team” of the Trust have been organizing this Music Festival as a tribute to the Cultural Icon of India – Swami Vivekananda. With a view to raise interest towards Hindustani Classical Music and to provide further insight into various Gharanas, various exponents of Hindustani Classical Music from around the country performed “Samay Sangeet Yatra” from early morning (6.30 am) till late evening (7.30 pm) in the pleasant environment of SRM. Previously, icons of the world of music including Pt. Indudhar Nirodi, Pt. Venkatesh Kumar, Dr. Pt. Ashwini Bhide Deshpande, Pt. Bhuwanesh Komkali, prides of our districts – Ustad Rafiq Khan, Pt. Ravikiran Manipal and many more, had presented their compositions in this festival and have enthralled the audience.”

The artists this year included – Vocal Concert by Pt. Ganapathi Bhat Hasanagi, Pt. Vinayak Torvi Bengaluru and Pt. Shubhada Paradkar Mumbai, Tabla Solo by Pt Yogish Samsi Mumbai, Sarangi by Guruprasad Hegde Dharawad, Bansuri Recital by Samir Rao Mumbai and Sarod by Pt. Tejendra Narayan Majumdar. The accompanying artists included were : Vyasmurti Katti on the Harmonium, Dr. Udayaraj Karpur Bengaluru, Gurumurthi Vaidya and Bharavi Deraje on the Tabla. Senior Violinist, Vocalist and Guru – Pt. Narayan Pandit who was to be honored with “Sangeet Sanman 2016” during the occasion couldn’t make it due to his old-age, being 90 plus. It was indeed a great Classical Music concert enjoyed by everyone, and the audience even called for encores.
