CM should Announce CDC to Christian Development Board and Allocate Rs 500 Crore – Ivan D’Souza

Mangaluru: “The Christian Development Board should be formed and Rs 500 crore funds should be allocated in the 2018-19 budget. In the year 2011, the Christian Development Council was started with Rs 50 crore funds. In the year 2017-18 the government has allocated Rs 175 crore for the development of the Christian community. This year we request the CM to allocated Rs 500 crores and announce the Christian development council as Christian Development Board”, said the Chief Whip of legislative Council Ivan D’Souza in a press meet held at his chamber, MCC Premises here on January 18.

Addressing the mediapersons Ivan D’Souza said, “In the state, only 4% belong to the Christian community and the allocated funds have been utilized for self-employment loan, Ganga Kalyana Yojane, Poultry farming, Taxi/goods vehicle loan, home loans, development of old age homes, churches, cemeteries and community halls. If the government will allocate Rs 500 crore for the welfare of the Christian Community, more people will be benefitted.”

Ivan further said, “We have requested the Chief Minister to allocate funds according to the population of the Christian community and CM has already assured to fulfill our demands. In the year 2017-18, 176 students have applied for the overseas scholarship and 158 of them have received Rs 20 lakh each (Rs 31.60 crore) for higher studies abroad. From Dakshina Kannada 60 students have received overseas scholarship of Rs 20 lakh each.”

Ivan also said, “In Dakshina Kannada 17 churches have received funds of more than Rs 30 crores for development work, Rs 65.84 crore for the development of community halls, Rs 8.52 crore for the development of old age homes and Rs 4.25 crore for the development of cemeteries.”
