CME on ‘Cardiac MRI in Clinical Practice’ Held at Mangaluru
Mangaluru: The Department of Radiodiagnosis, Father Muller Medical College, in collaboration with Philips Healthcare, organised a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on “Cardiac MRI in Clinical Practice” on 2nd August 2026 at The Avatar Hotel & Convention, Mangalore. The programme brought together faculty members, radiologists, cardiologists, postgraduate residents and delegates from various institutions for a day of academic exchange and professional learning.
The CME was formally inaugurated in the presence of Rev. Fr. Faustine Lucas Lobo, Director, Father Muller Charitable Institutions; Dr. Antony Sylvan D’Souza, Dean; Dr. Ram Shenoy Basti, Professor and Head, Department of Radiodiagnosis; Dr. Anston Vernon Braggs, Consultant Cardiothoracic Radiologist; and Dr. H. B. Suresh, Head of Interventional Radiology.
The programme commenced with a prayer song, followed by the Welcome Address by Dr. Ram Shenoy Basti, who welcomed the delegates and highlighted the Department’s vision of promoting multidisciplinary learning and excellence in cardiac imaging through collaborative academic initiatives.
The traditional lamp-lighting ceremony was performed by the dignitaries, following which Rev. Fr. Faustine Lucas Lobo delivered the Presidential Address. He emphasised the importance of academic CMEs in fostering continuous learning and highlighted the value of bringing multiple specialties together to strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration and ultimately enhance patient care.
The inaugural ceremony concluded with the Vote of Thanks proposed by Dr. Anston Vernon Braggs, whose leadership was instrumental in organising the CME. His efforts have also contributed significantly to the advancement of cardiac imaging services at Father Muller Medical College through the introduction of newer imaging technologies.
The scientific sessions commenced with a lecture by Dr. Prakashini K, Professor, Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, on “Introduction to Cardiac MRI: Basic Anatomy and Physics.” This was followed by a presentation by the Philips Healthcare team on “Cardiac Imaging Planes and Volume Analysis.”
Dr. Suraj Gowda, Consultant Cardiothoracic and Musculoskeletal Radiologist, Narayana Health, Bengaluru, delivered sessions on “Late Gadolinium Enhancement and Parametric Mapping: Basic Physics and Clinical Applications” and “Non-Ischemic Cardiomyopathies in a Nutshell.”
Further sessions were conducted by Dr. Ashitha Barthur, Cardiothoracic Radiologist, Professor of Radiology, Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, who spoke on “Ischemic Heart Disease and CMR Stress Perfusion” and “Miscellaneous Cardiac MRI Topics.”
The afternoon scientific programme featured a presentation by the Philips Healthcare team on “SmartSpeed: Acceleration Techniques.” The CME concluded its academic sessions with an interactive “Ask the Experts” session, providing delegates an opportunity to engage with the faculty and clarify clinical and technical aspects of cardiac MRI.
The programme concluded with the felicitation of the speakers and chairpersons, followed by the National Anthem. The CME received excellent feedback from the delegates, who appreciated the quality of the scientific sessions and the practical insights offered into contemporary Cardiac MRI techniques and applications.
As part of its commitment to making advanced cardiac imaging more accessible, Father Muller Medical College Hospital has introduced a 30 percent concession on all Cardiac CT and Cardiac MRI examinations.
