Congress Candidates Shocked over Assembly Election Results in DK

Mangaluru: The Congress candidates – Ramanath Rai, J R Lobo and Moideen Bava – were unhappy at the results of the vote counting for the Assembly elections which was held in Mahatma Gandhi Centenary School Bondel on May 15.

Showing his displeasure, Moideen Bava said, “I have more than 1 lakh Muslim and Christian voters in my constituency and 90% of them have cast their votes on May 12. But today, I am surprised by the result which shows the BJP’s candidate leading with 27235 votes against me. I have doubts as to whether the EVM machine is faulty or not. We will talk to the election commission in this regard.”

Candidates from Mangaluru South Constituency J R Lobo and Bantwal constituency Ramanath Rai also showed displeasure over the results.

Ramanath Rai, J R Lobo, Moideen Bava, Shakuntala Shetty and Vasanth Bangera reached the counting centre and met the Election officer. They all met DC Sasikanth Senthil and expressed their displeasure over the voting system. All the 5 candidates have decided to file a complaint with the Election officer on May 16.

The Congress was confident in winning all the 8 seats in Dakshina Kannada but the results have shocked the candidates. All the candidates have expressed their doubts over the EVM’s. In this regard, further steps will be taken after the Election officer’s decision.

  1. “I have more than one lakh Christian and Muslim voters…” Report quoting an unhappy congress candidate.
This comment shows the mindset and reason why Congress lost so badly. Congress has turned into a minority-worshiping political party and normal voters decided to teach it a good lesson. The minorities have practiced heavy communal politics using Congress and people got tired of it.

For years, I have been pointing out on this forum on how minorities and congress leaders couldn’t grow beyond petty communal mindset. Lobo started his political journey as honest man. However, it was very disappointing to see him absent in any good social events like cleanliness campaign. He associated himself only with minorities, especially with Catholics and paid a heavy price.
