Congress Leader Ismail Brutally murdered in Sullia

Sullia: A Congress leader was brutally murder while he was returning back from the Mosque at Ivarnadu, here on September 23.

The deceased has been identified as Ismail from Nelyamajalu.

According to sources, Ismail was returning home after the Friday prayers from Ivarnadu Mosque in Sullia, a group attacked him with machetes. The attackers then fled from the spot. Ismail died on the spot.

On September 23, Ismail came to Sullia from Bellare to attend a court case. Being a Friday Ismail went to the Mosque for prayers. While he was returning from the Mosque the attackers brutally hacked him to death.

The reason for the brutal murder is not known. It is recalled that two years ago Ismail and his wife were attacked by miscreants.

According to sources, the attackers followed Ismail to the court premises but were unable to attack him there. At around 1:45 pm, when Ismail was proceeding towards Ivarnadu Mosque for Friday prayers, the attackers followed him. While Ismail came out from the Mosque after the prayers, the attackers brutally assaulted Ismail with machetes. This incident has created fear in the minds of the people.

An attempt, last year to assault Ismail in Gandhinagar had failed. Since then Ismail had appointed a bodyguard. Being Friday the bodyguard did not accompany him.

To track the case, teams have been formed and the investigation is on. The body has been sent to the hospital in Derlakatte for post-mortem. SP Bhushan Borase, Additional SP Dr C B Vedamurthy, ASP Resheath, Circle inspector Sullia Krishnayya and Bellare police inspector M V Cheluvayya visited the spot.

A case has been registered in the Bellare police station.

The minister for food and civil supplies U T Khader spoke to SP Bhushan Borase to take the case seriously and arrest the attackers.
