Congress must apologise over Rafale accusations: BJP

New Delhi: The BJP on Thursday demanded that the Congress party must apologise for alleging corruption in the Rafale deal in the wake of the Supreme Court dismissing a review petition seeking a probe into the fighter jet deal.

Addressing a press conference, BJP leader and Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said the verdict “is a recognition of the honest decision making process of the Narendra Modi government. The Congress party must apologise and Rahul Gandhi in particular must apologise to the country.”

He accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of having “lied” in Parliament with his accusations against the government on the Rafale deal.

Targetting the Gandhi family, he said that those who have a “saga of corruption”, including the Bofors and AugustaWestland cases, were “masquerading” in the quest for justice.

“Raising false allegations on the Rafale deal was the lowest point of political discourse,” he said, referring to Rahul Gandhi.

The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed a review petition seeking a probe into the Rafale deal.

Justice S.K. Kaul while reading the judgement said that the review petition is without merit.

The top court dismissed a plea seeking the lodging of an FIR to probe the Rafale deal inked with Dassault Aviation.

The court also closed contempt proceedings initiated against Rahul Gandhi and said that being an important political person, he must remain more careful in this regard in the future.
