CPI(M) Stages Protest against increase in Price hike for Basic Commodities

Mangaluru: The CPI(M) staged a protest against the Union Government for hiking the prices of basic commodities in front of the DC office here on March 27.

Prior to the protest, a rally was flagged off from the Mini Vidhana Soudha premises which culminated in front of the DC office.

Addressing the protesters CPI(M) secretary Sunil Kumar Bajal said, “In the international market, the price of oil varies has drastically decreased. But in our country, the BJP government led by Modi after coming to power has drastically increased the price. The price for a cylinder of gas was Rs 430 but after Modi came to power the price has now reached to Rs 798. Within a month the price for a cylinder of gas has increased by 77%. The price for Petrol and diesel has increased and has affected the price of day-to-day commodities. Due to the increase in fuel price transportation charges have also increased which has affected the common man to a great extent. Under Modi’s rule, the price of all basic commodities has increased from 40 to 100%. The people of the country believed in Modi and voted for the BJP but the BJP government has failed to address the problems of the people”.

Sunil Kumar further said, “The government has also reduced the distribution of ration. The BPL card holders who did not link their ration card to the Aadhar card have been deprived of subsidy for the ration. It is the duty of the central government to provide ration as well as the state government also has the responsibility of providing ration. The food distribution system is also not in order. BPL card holders should go and collect the food coupons from one center and then go to the fair price shop to collect the ration. Sometimes the fair price shop owners send the coupon holders back without the availability of ration.”

Sunil also said, “The MCC has raised a false alarm of scarcity of water if you check the Thumbay dam, there is enough water. Because of less rain, there may be a scarcity of water in the district. Soon the people of DK will face drought, like the other districts, if proper action will not be taken to prevent water scarcity, people will face drinking water problems. The present system of distribution of ration is not in order but the district administration nor the state government has taken any action in this regard”.

CPI(M) members Vasanth Achari,  Muneer Katipalla and others were also present.
