Dalit Organisations Protest Against Review of Prevention of SC/ST Atrocities Act

Udupi: Various Dalit organizations in the city held a protest on Friday, April 6, against the Supreme Court directive to the Centre to review the Prevention of SC/ST Atrocities Act.

Addressing the gathering G Rajsehkar president of Komu Sauhardha Vedike said that the Supreme Court ruling was shocking even as the conviction rate for such crimes has declined over the years. The constitution has given the rights of equality to all the citizens of India and some people are trying to deny those rights to the Dalits.

In Gujarat, a Dalit youth was killed for owning a horse and using it for riding. The present Modi led BJP government is anti-Dalit. They are living in fear. The union government is trying to snatch the rights of the Dalits in the country. Every citizen of India should raise their voice to preserve the rights of the Dalits, he added.

Fr William Martis, Hussain Kodibengre, Sundar Mastar, Shyamraj Birthi, Prof. Phaniraj and others were present.
