DEIC to be Set Up in District – Minister Khader

Mangaluru: Minister for Health and Family Welfare, U T Khader held a press meet at the Circuit House here, on April 4.

Addressing the mediapersons, Khader said, “District Early Intervention Centre (DEIC) will be set up in every district. DEIC will work towards prevention and management of pre and post birth diseases under the National Health Mission (NHM).”

DEIC will work towards reducing the infant mortality rate, take care of mental and physical health of children and increasing school attendance of children. It will aim at detecting, defects at birth, delays and disabilities, diseases and deficiencies and overall development of children.

If any defects are observed at birth, the hospital staff should refer the children to district DEIC, if children are between 6 weeks and 6 years then Anganvadi workers should refer them to DEIC. School health inspection team should visit schools to inspect adolescent children.

Speaking about the ‘Santwana Harish Scheme’ Khader said, “So far 387 cases have been registered in the entire state and a state level ceremony will be held to award those who have helped and admitted them to the hospital.”

DHO, Dr Ramakrishna Rao, DMO, Dr Rajeshwari and others were present.
