Delhi govt cracks down against 106 industrial units for violating pollution norms

New Delhi: Under the Delhi government’s action against pollution, 2,011 industrial units were inspected between January and July 2026 and out of these, 106 units were found to be non-compliant with the prescribed environmental standards, an official said on Friday.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said during the drive, 78 units were found operating without a valid Consent to Operate (CTO) from the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC).

The Chief Minister said the government has taken action against units found violating the rules following these inspections. Environmental Compensation (EC) has been imposed in 44 cases, while closure orders have been issued against 33 non-compliant industrial units.

Action is also being taken in other cases in accordance with the relevant environmental laws and regulations, she said.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that providing clean air to Delhi is a priority for her government. The government will extend all possible support to industries that comply with environmental regulations, but there will be no laxity towards units that violate the rules or pollute Delhi’s air.

“Our objective is not merely to take action, but to ensure effective control over pollution at its source,” she said.

The government’s campaign is not limited to industrial pollution. Action is also being taken against other major sources of pollution in Delhi, including road dust, vehicular emissions, construction and demolition activities, waste burning and other polluting activities, she said.

At the same time, regular, on-ground monitoring of industrial emissions has been strengthened so that polluting activities can be identified in time and action can be taken, she said.

The Chief Minister said that the fight against pollution is not the responsibility of the government alone.

The citizens of Delhi are also important partners in this campaign. If people come across industrial pollution, the open burning of waste or other material, dust pollution, illegal dumping of waste or any activity that harms the environment, they should bring it to the government’s notice, she said.

One responsible report from a citizen can help identify polluters faster and enable timely action, she said.

The Chief Minister said that the government’s efforts to ensure clean air in Delhi will continue and become more effective.

“Our message is clear: industries that comply with environmental regulations will receive support and facilitation, but strict action will continue against those that pollute Delhi’s air,” she said.

“The Delhi Government wants to turn the fight for clean air into a people’s movement, with the government, industries and citizens working together. Through collective efforts, Delhi will move forward towards becoming a cleaner, healthier and greener capital,” she added.
