Gowda to file papers from Tumkur seat today

Bengaluru: JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda said here on Sunday that he was certain about his candidature from Tumkur.

Speaking to reporters after meeting KPCC president Dinesh Gundu Rao and Wakf Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan, Gowda said the Congress had promised to iron out problems in the constituency.

“They told me that they will speak to Muddahanumegowda and explain to him why the seat had to be ceded. Tomorrow the Congress leaders, led by Parameshwara, will be
by my side. I will definitely file my papers from Tumkur,” he said.

JD(S) and Congress leaders continue to pressure Gowda to consider his candidature from Bangalore North, instead of Tumkur. After meeting Gowda, Khan said though Gowda was under pressure to contest from Tumkur, he should reconsider his decision.

“Rao and I met both Gowda and Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy. We have urged Gowda to contest from Bangalore North. We can win the Tumkur seat even if some other candidate is fielded. If he contests from Bangalore North, he will win by a margin of over three lakh votes,” he added.
