Diocese holds Discussions of Giving Respectful Burial to Deceased People of Covid-19

Mangaluru: A meeting of the Funeral undertakers of the Diocese of Mangaluru was arranged on 21st Friday, July at the Bishop’s house. During the meeting 18 points were discussed in view of giving respectful burial to the deceased people of Covid-19. The Bishop of Mangaluru Rev Dr Peter Paul Saldanha presided over the meeting. He said that in need the undertakers must reach all the deaneries and extend their services.

Msgr Maxim Noronha the vicar general was present for the meeting. Louis J Pinto explained the guidelines to the undertakers. Roy Castelino gave them some practical hints how to carry out a decent burial of Christians. Fr Vijay Victor Machado the director of DBCLC guided them how to do the Liturgical part . In each deanery or in every parish we need to prepare a team of young people to handle the funeral of Covid-19 patients. Likewise a team of young priests is to be formed in each deanery.
The Bishop said that the undertakers must take all the safety measures and need to be more service oriented towards the funeral of Covid-19. The Bishop appreciated the initiative taken by the laity commission and DBCLC for preparing guidelines and Liturgical instructions. Fr J B Crasta with his introductory talk welcomed the gathering. 13 Funeral undertakers attended the meeting. During the meeting they clarified a few doubts and issues. The Deanery Vicars were also present. The meeting ended with the message and blessings of the Bishop.
