Mangaluru: Believe It or Not! Dr Prashanth Marla- is not only the Best Doctor/Urologist and also the Medical Director & CEO at A J Hospital & Research Centre. Mangaluru, but now he is also the BEST STORY WRITER, BEST PRODUCER and BEST DIRECTOR of his debut Short Movie ‘JEEVANA VILEENA’, which means “A Ray of Hope”, and best of all, the movie is only 9 minutes long? And the movie being so short, I watched the entire show, if not I always sleep while watching Bollywood or Hollywood movies. But this Short and Sweet Movie, did send a clear message to the movie watchers and the public about the importance of Organ Donation.

Teen Star of ‘Jeevana Vileena’ Miss Aradhana Bhat

Dr Marla’s core objective in producing this movie was to bring awareness among the general public on organ donation, its process, legal aspects, pledging, issuing donor card and also the road safety. Sources reveal that there is a need for 25,000 kidney transplants every year but on the contrary 3,500 transplants are being done per year in India. There is a substantial number of people who land up with liver failure too, who require transplantation. Each cadaveric donor can give a fresh lease of life to about 50 people, but in India only Liver, Kidneys, Heart valve, Heart and Corneal donations are common.

This Short Movie of “Ray of Hope” is just a beginning, since there is a long way to bring awareness among the public on organ donation. There is a need to maintain a separate registry of brain dead persons, which would enable the needy patients to get organs if their family members agree. And Dr Marla says, “We can do it- and I am really overwhelmed with this release of the short movie, which has received great support and encouragement. A J Hospital and Research Centre will try its best to promote and bring awareness of organ donation through various means”.

The Short Movie “JEEVANA VILEENA” was screened at Bharath Cinemas on Friday, 22 November at 4.30 pm, and the whole show and programme lasted till 5. 30 pm. Prior to the start of the movie the Associate Director of the movie Sashidhar Acharya gave a brief introduction and the theory behind in making this short movie-“Jeevana Villena”, followed by more details on the movie described by the other Associate Director Ganesh Rai Bantwala. Story Writer, Producer and Director of this movie Dr Prashanth Marla appearing on the screen said, “There is a substantial number of people who land up with liver failure too, who require transplantation. It is estimated that about 150,000 die in India due to road traffic accidents, out of which at least 50% of people reach the hospital and later declared “brain dead”. If about 20% of such people’s relatives come forward for cadaveric organ donation, it will help a significant number of patients”

” In order to bring awareness about Organ Donation we have brought out this short movie ‘Jeevan Vileena’- a unique film for a great cause. Not many people are aware of Organ Donation, so in order to bring awareness of Organ Donation, this movie has been released, and we seek support from the public to a great extent. Everyone needs to join hands in helping the needy who are desperately looking for an organ. I am confident that campaigns like this will encourage citizens to come forward to donate their organs in the time of need. I hope that through this movie we will be able to get more organ donors in the nearest future” added Dr Marla.

The main star in this short movie “Jeevana Vileena” is ‘MAJABHARATHA’ fame Miss Aradhana Bhat, a serial which features on Colors Super Kannada Channel at 9:00 pm to 10:30 pm. Do you know that a donor of the organs plays a role of God in the life of organ transplanted person. One organ donor can save more than 8 lives in his life by donating his well-functioning organs. ‘Heaven’ does not need organs but millions of people will have a fresh lease of life with the organs donated by ‘Brain Dead” patients making ‘Heaven on Earth” for them- and being a ‘Cadaver Donor’ is highly appreciated. A cadaver donor is a person who makes the decision to donate his or her body after death for the sake of scientific experiment and discovery, or for organ harvesting.

In conclusion, the main aim of this short movie “Jeevana Vileena” was: to bring awareness among the people about the need of organ donation; To distribute the messages of organ donation; To remove the hesitations of the people about donating organs; To say a grateful thanks to the donors of organs; and To motivate and encourage more people towards organ donation in their life. Be a Hero, Be an Organ Donor- and Save Lives.
