District administration observes World TB Day

Udupi: The world TB Day was organised by the district administration in association with Zilla Panchayat, Health and family welfare department Udupi and district TB control unit at the Pragathi Soudha Brahmagiri Udupi.

The programme was inaugurated by Pramod Madhwaraj district minister in-charge by lighting the lamp.

In his message, Pramod Madhwaraj said that TB is 100 percent curable. Five people die every minute in the world. People do not complete the full course of medicine. Around 30 percent of the world’s population and 40 percent of the population in our country has been infected with the TB virus due to lack of immunity. In India, around 40,000 people are affected by the TB virus daily and the symptoms of the disease can be seen in 6,000 people. However, this disease is curable.

With Direct Observation Treatment Short Course (DOTS) one can get free treatment for 6 to 8 months in Government hospitals. The world health organisation has decided to make Tuberculosis-Free World by 2035. Meanwhile, our government has also planned to make Tuberculosis-Free India by 2025, he added.
