District BJP pays Tribute to Former Minister Sushma Swaraj

Mangaluru: The district BJP paid tribute to Former Union Minister Sushma Swaraj here on August 7. Sushma Swaraj breathed her last after suffering a heart attack in New Delhi on August 6.

The programme began with an invocation. Addressing the gathering BJP leader Ravishankar Mijar said, “In our country, many leaders have created history in their own ways. Sushma Swaraj completed her education and at the age of 25 joined politics and became the youngest cabinet minister of Haryana. Before joining politics she was working as a Supreme court lawyer and was later elected as MP. She was the Member of the Legislative Assembly three times. Sushma Swaraj served as the minister of External Affairs in the Modi government. Sushmaji acted swiftly when any of our citizens faced problems in other countries and helped them return to the homeland. In our political life, we need to emulate her”.

Ravishanker further said, “In the 2019 elections, Sushma requested Narendra Modi that she would not contest the elections because of health issues. She was suffering from kidney disease. But on August 6, just three hours before her death she tweeted on the scraping of Article 370 to PM Modi and said, “Thank you Prime Minister. Thank you very much. I was waiting to see this day in my lifetime.” She was a good parliamentarian and a kind-hearted person. We have lost a precious life which is a great loss not only to the party but to the whole nation”.

BJP leader Pratap Simha said, “Sushma Swaraj was a great leader, she was a mother, sister and national leader. Through her deeds, she earned respect in society. In 1978, when Indira Gandhi was contesting the Lok Sabha elections from Chikkamagaluru, Sushma Swaraj had come to Chikkamagaluru for campaigning. Being a woman at the age of 25 Sushma entered politics and become the education minister. At the age of 27, she became the party President of Haryana. She was an active politician and the opposition leaders were commending her speeches. If any woman delivers a good speech, they are being compared to Sushma Swaraj. When she had come to Beltangady and was garlanded by the BJP women’s wing, she hugged them. She had respect and love towards everyone. BJP has lost a great leader and Sushma’s death is a great loss to the country.”

MLA Vedavyas Kamath said, “Sushma Swaraj helped many of our citizens who faced problems in other countries. When 33 Indians were stranded in Kuwait, our MP Nalin Kumar Kateel contacted Sushma Swaraj. When she realized the problems Mangaloreans were facing in Kuwait, she immediately got into action. She has responded positively to everyone who sought her help be it in the country or outside. Today we lost a great mother. This is a great loss for the country.”

A minute silence was observed for the soul of Sushma Swaraj. After the vote of thanks delivered by Pooja Pai, everyone present paid tribute by showering flower petals Sushma Swaraj portrait.

Former MLA Yogish Kamath, Brijesh Chowta, Ravishankar Mijar and Pooja among pothers were also present.
