District BJP to stage protest against govt’s ‘failure’ on Feb 20
Udupi: As called by the State committee, the Bharatiya Janata Party will stage a protest against the state government’s failure in tackling the problems of the state and district in the city on February 20, said Mattar Rathnakar Hegde president Udupi district BJP.
He was speaking at a press meet at the Party office on Saturday, February 18, he said that a protest will be held at the clock tower near service bus-stand at 3:00 pm. The state government has no control over the officials. The behaviour of the chief minister has made his Cabinet colleagues and officials engage in corruption.
State BJP president B S Yeddyurappa recently revealed Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of taking Rs 150 crore as a kickback for sanctioning the controversial steel flyover in Bengaluru. It was part of an effort to mobilise funds for the Congress party. Of the Rs 150 crore, Rs 65 crore has already been paid to the party high command. The government wants to implement the flyover project between Basaveshwara circle and Hebbal despite public outcry. Why is he government showing special interest in implementing the project? he questioned. The Enforcement Directorate and CBI sleuths unearthed this information from a diary that was seized during a raid at the residence and office of MLC Govindraj.
The Congress government in the state has failed in all aspects and development activities have come to a standstill. The law and order situation in the State has collapsed after the Congress party has come to power. The income tax department has seized around uncovered undisclosed income to the tune of Rs 162.06 crore, cash worth Rs 41 lakh and 12.8 kgs of gold and jewellery, as well as bogus accounts and unexplained deposits in benami names from the raids carried out on the residences of Minister Ramesh Jarakiholi and Congress chief Laxmi Hebbalkar. The chief minister has failed to take action against Jarakiholi and Laxmi Hebbalkar. He is also supporting corruption, he added.
Speaking about the CD of a purported conversation between Yeddyurappa and Ananth Kumar which shows the two leaders engaged in private conversation at a BJP function, Mattar demanded that the Congress leaders should play the entire clipping of the conversation. They should release the entire CD with what we have spoken before and after the clipping. The Congress is misleading the people by wrongly interpreting the conversation, he said.
Speaking about the toll issue Mattar said that the party has already announced its stand in the toll collection. We are not against the toll but the toll should not be collected at Sastan and Hejamadi junctions until the works proposed – which include laying of service roads and construction of stormwater drains and footpaths in the area are completed. MP Shobha Karandlaje has met the Union Minister Nitin Gadkari revealing the reality and also appealing for permitting the movement of vehicles of undivided Dakshina Kannada against toll collection. The district in-charge minister has not raised the issue in the Assembly sessions although the matter is of grave importance. He urged to stop the Surathkal Toll but the toll collecting company and Hejamadi – Sastan Company is different. District administration is coming under the district in-charge minister. He can stop the toll collection until the works proposed are competed, he added.
Former MLA Raghupathi Bhat, BJP leaders Gurme Suresh Shetty, Suresh Nayak, Yaspal Suvarna, Katapadi Shanker Poojary, Shyamala Kunder, Prabhakar Poojary, Surpasad Shetty, Kuthyaru Naveen Shetty were present.
