District all set for Udupi Parba and Adventure Sports Festival – DC Priyanka Mary Francis

Udupi: The district administration is all set for ‘Udupi Parba and Adventure Sports Festival’ focusing on adventure sports, culture, coastal cuisine, and a variety of competitions which will be held from December 29-31 said DC Priyanka Mary Francis. She was speaking at a press meet after releasing the invitation of ‘Udupi Parba and Adventure Sports Festival’ at the DC Office on Saturday, December 23.

One of the major highlights of the adventure sports festival would be the National Junior Open Water Swimming Championship, which would be held at the Malpe beach, on December 30 and 31. For the first time, such a festival is being organised by General Timayya National Academy of sports, Department of Youth Empowerment and sports. This is the third of the ten such events that the academy is organizing in Collaboration with the Department of Tourism. The first two have been a grand success namely Kali Kayak Festival at Dandeli and Bangaluru Bouldering Championships both having been a thumping success.

The Festival will consist of 5 components namely Competition and Races, Creating an experience to the general Public, Seminar on Adventure sports and Entertainments.

Udupi Road Cycle Race is being held in association with Karnataka Cycling Association on December 31 at 6:30 am. The Challenging Race will cover a distance of 125 km across Udupi.

Thew Udupi Open Swimming Competitions will be held on December 30 at 6:30 am. This event is being organised with the Swimming Association of India. The event will also be a qualification for the world open junior water swimming championships to be organised by FINA. This will also be the first open water national junior swimming competition.

The Xtreme sports competition – BMX & Skateboarding will be held on December 31 st at 4:30 pm. Top skateboarder will participate in this high energy competition which will have the final display on December 31.

Various other sports and cultural events would be held at different places in Udupi district. They include Helicopter rides at the Adi Udupi helipad; photography competition on St Mary’s Island (December 29 to 31); and a dog show at Mahatma Gandhi Bayalu Ranga Mandira, on (December 31). The following events would be held on the Malpe beach: wine festival from December 29 to 31, sky lantern “Gududeepa” competition on December 29, food festival focusing on coastal cuisine from December 29 to 31, sand sculpture camp on December 29, drawing and cartoon camp from December 29 to 31, and fireworks display programme at midnight on December 31.

A scuba diving fest would be held off Kaup beach from December 24 to 31. A beach fest would be held on Othinene-Paduvari beach from December 28 to 30, while another beach fest would be held on the Kinara beach in Koteshwar. A trekking and camping at concession rate at Hebri, Kollur and Kudremukh from December 24 to 31.

Cultural programmes, including music programme by Kalaimani Sivamani, Nritya Vaibhava by Alva’s troupe, and magic show by Prahlad Acharya, would be held on Malpe beach from December 29 to 31.

Superintendent of Police Dr Sanjeev M Patil, Assistant director for youth and sports Dr Roshan Kumar Shetty, Assistant director for tourism department Anitha, Keerthi Pais of General Timayya National Academy of sports also present on the occasion.
