DK Shivakumar gets P Chidambaram as his neighbour in Tihar jail

Congress troubleshooter DK Shivakumar who has been lodged at Tihar will be in the company of former finance minister P Chidambaram who was put there before the former Karnataka minister.

Sources have told India Today TV that DK Shivakumar, who was discharged from RML Hospital on Thursday, has also been lodged in jail number 7 of Tihar where P Chidambaram has been staying since September 5. Jail number 7 of Tihar prison is especially allotted for economic offenders who are in judicial custody or facing trial.

However, sources said that it is very unlikely that Chidambaram will meet or interact with DK Shivakumar in jail.

Kashmiri separatist leader Yasin Malik, British businessman and AgustaWestland middleman Christian Michel and corporate lobbyist Deepak Talwar are also lodged in jail number 7. P Chidambaram has been lodged in cell number 15 of jail number 7 at the Tihar prison.

Ironically, Chidambaram’s son Karti Chidambaram was also lodged in the same jail last year after he was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the INX Media case.

Yasin Malik was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in a terror funding case while Christian Michel is in judicial custody in connection with the AgustaWestland scam case.

Deepak Talwar was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and CBI in connection with the aviation scam.

A Delhi court has sent DK Shivakumar to Tihar jail in judicial custody after ED’s custody of 14 days expired. Shivakumar’s lawyers have already filed a bail application before the court to grant him bail on grounds that he is not doing well. After his arrest, DK Shivakumar was admitted to the RML hospital on at least 5 occasions after complaints of chest pain and high blood pressure.

Sources said DK Shivakumar will be served dal, roti, vegetables and rice for lunch and dinner. For breakfast, he will be served dalia, biscuits and tea. Court has instructed the authorities to take proper care of DK Shivakumar’s health while he is in jail.
