DK Youth Congress Protests against Sharp Hike in Petrol and Diesel Prices

Mangaluru: The district Congress staged a unique protest against the BJP government for hiking the price of petrol and diesel by peddling from Jyothi to Town Hall here on June 29.

Addressing the protesters Mithun Rai said, “When the Congress was in power, the price of oil per barrel was $160 and the price of the petrol per liter was Rs 60, the BJP leaders including Nalin Kumar Kateel, Shobha Karandlaje, Vedavyas Kamath and others staged a unique protest by cooking on the streets with firewood. But now when the price of petrol and diesel has been sharply hiked even when the price of oil in the international market is just $40, they have maintained silence. At present, the world is suffering from COVID pandemic, and the people in our country are also suffering a financial crisis. In Pakistan, the government has decreased the price of petrol to Rs 30. Still, in our country, the BJP government is intentionally putting the burden on the people by hiking the price of petrol and diesel.”

Mithun Rai further said, “One should not love anyone more than the country. We have a man called Sulibele, who is the ambassador for lies. He had said that if Narendra Modi becomes the prime minister, laser fencing will be installed to safeguard the borders and when Modi comes to power, the price for diesel and petrol will be less than that of water. Modi is spending crores of rupees for publicity. Why have the people maintained silence? Why are they not raising their voice against the price hike? For them, Modi is greater than the country! Mangaluru is a city of intellectuals if Sulibele comes to Mangaluru and tells we the Congress workers will blacken his face.”

DCC President Harish Kumar, former MLC Ivan D’Souza also spoke on the occasion. Congress leaders Sashidhar Hegde, Sudheer T K Naveen D’Souza, Vinayraj, Suhail Kandak, Shalet Pinto, Girish Alva, and others were also present.
