Don’t Harass Public – SP Sanjeev Patil Warns Transgenders

Udupi: The police superintendent Dr Sanjeev Patil strictly warned the transgenders not to harass people by begging alms. He was replying to a call during the weekly phone-in programme on Friday, November 3.

Retorting to the grievance on the trouble by transgenders while begging, the SP said that he would instruct his subordinates to look into the issue. He said that the transgenders would be strictly warned not to harass people by begging alms.

A caller from Jannadi of Kota Police station limits complained that the Udupi – Jannadi bridge is excessively used by loaded heavy trucks. The bridge which is in poor condition may collapse anytime and the RTO has not been responding to their complaints. The SP said that the district magistrates notification is required to take action. However, he would take strict action. He added and said that the trucks carrying sand or laterite and all other types of stones should take care of basic precautions like covering the materials since others are affected when the sand and stone particles are blown by the wind.

He further said that the structural engineers from Manipal Institute of Technology would be making a spot inspection of the national highway in crucial junctions like Brahmavar and Kaup and would discuss the issue of corrective measures to be proposed for the national highway irregularities.

He said that it is total injustice wherein the service of a bus is stopped in Henguvalli village from 20 days. The school students are made to walk for six kilometres every day to go to school.

Later speaking to media persons SP Dr Sanjeev Patil said that measures would be taken to curtail the accidental and suicidal unnatural deaths which are increasing in the district.

619 cases of unnatural deaths were reported in 2017 until October 31, 843 cases in 2016 and 708 cases in 2015. He added that there are cases like suicidal drowning, hanging, burning and poisoning along with accidental drowning, accidental burning, accidental deaths and snake bites. In 2017, suicidal hanging was very high which accounted for 171 cases, while accidental drowning was 105 until October 31. Accidental drowning of 12 cases is high in Malpe. He said that he has instructed all his subordinates that special instruction boards should be put in all the tourist spots both in English and Kannada languages.
