ELC/CFAL to organize Collection Drive towards Anganawadi Renovation Project

Can ordinary people make a difference? Is it possible for each of us, through our small initiatives to actually ‘Be the change?’ To celebrate Gandhi Jayanthi, ELC/ CFAL are undertaking a project to renovate the Anganawadi at the Government school. In order to do this, ELC/CFAL have organized a collection drive this Sunday i.e. 8th October from 10 a.m.- 12.30 p.m. at their campus in Bejai-Kapikad.

Mangaluru: A small community at Early Learning Centre (ELC Kindergarten) and Centre for Advanced Learning Mangalore (CFAL) is working to live by these famous words of Gandhiji. The community is comprised of educators, innovators, social activists, parents, students, concerned citizens and people who are looking to be thoughtful, aware and active citizens. Instead of complaining, blaming others or receding into the comfort of apathy and indifference, they are trying to harness the collective potential of the local community. Their motto is to walk the talk.

ELC and CFAL run an outreach project called ‘Be the change!’ This year, 11 students from Government colleges are getting free JEE/ CET training at their centers. They have also provided a Science / AV room at the ZP Government school at Kottara. Computers, printer, projector and high-speed internet has been provided. To foster the spirit of reading and inquiry, a reading corner with over hundred books has been set up. A computer corner has also been set up with the SOLE (Self Organized Learning Environment) concept. Both the reading corner and the computer corner are based on the ‘self-learning’ philosophy wherein children can take up projects or activities that interests them and self-direct their learning. ELC/ CFAL also coordinate volunteers/ teachers to teach at the school as part of the Governments ‘BanniShanivara’ program. It is wonderful to see the enthusiasm of children and their happiness with their new environment.

To celebrate Gandhi Jayanthi, ELC/ CFAL are undertaking a project to renovate the Anganawadi at the Government school. In order to do this, they have organized a collection drive this Sunday i.e. 8th October from 10 a.m.- 12.30 p.m. at their campus in Bejai-Kapikad. We request you to kindly drop off any learning material, toys, books, clothing that children can use- you can even sign up to volunteer to teach for an hour a week.A small amount/ gesture goes a long way! On this day, they have also organized a talk by Ms. Geetha Nityanand, Director, Board of studies, Indian Montessori Centre, Bangalore. She is a highly experienced teacher, counselor and special educator and will answer all your questions pertaining to raising children. The talk is open to public, entry fee is Rs.150 and all proceeds go towards the Anganawadi renovation project. We invite parents, teachers and people interested in children’s learning process to attend the talk.

An idea truly gets wings when it is supported and encouraged by people who believe in it. Ordinary people can make extraordinary change when we all get together and take small strides towards a better tomorrow. The power of the local community in steering positive change can never be undermined. There is great potential for change if committed persons get together to help others and ourselves by contributing and volunteering a small fraction of our time.
