Engine Failure Forces Air India Express to Doha return to Airport after taking off

Mangaluru: An Air India Express flight IX 821 which was carrying around 170 passengers to Doha returned to the Mangaluru airport after one of its engines failed here on September 21.

Air India Flight IX 821 with around 170 passengers took off at 5:35 pm and soon returned when one of its engines failed. A timely decision of the Pilot saved all the passengers on board.

Speaking to mangalorean.com one the passenger Jaffer from Kasargod said, “After the flight took off in about half an hour we heard a big sound from one of its engines and the flight suddenly descended. The pilot did not inform us of any problems. Then again there was a heavy vibration of the plane. The Pilot then announced that the flight would return to the airport. The Pilot took the right decision and landed the plane safely at the Mangaluru airport. We thank the pilot for his timely decision in returning the flight and landing it safely.”

Jaffer also said, “Eighty percent of the passengers have been provided accommodation by the flight authorities. We will be flying on September 22 at 6:00 am. We have also been informed to stay back if we don’t wish to travel and those who wish to fly will be taken to the airport at 2:00 am. If anyone does not wish to fly on September 22, they can postpone their journey and reconfirm their ticket whenever they feel to fly.”

When asked whether the passengers panicked Jaffer said, “The Pilot was really good and experienced we commend him for handling the situation smoothly without letting anyone to panic.”
