Engineering student attempts suicide, rescued; claims youth forcing him to indulge in terrorism

Bagalkote/Mysuru (CT): In a baffling incident, an engineering undergraduate from Mysuru city attempted to commit suicide in Gadag alleging that he was a ensnared in a terror trap.

Sharanappa Nagarala is the youth who attempted suicide at Gajendra Gadha village in Gadag district on Friday night.

The youth was rescued and rushed to the Government Hospital in Gadag, but was later shifted to Bagalkote District Government Hospital for treatment.

According to a death note recovered by the police, the youth had stated in his letter that he was attempting suicide as he was ensnared in a terror trap by two persons in Mysuru who were forcing him to indulge in terror activities.

“Two persons named Mohammad Rafeeq and Ismail befriended me a few days back in Mysuru and tried to enroll me in a terror outfit. They used to force me to take up terror activities and threatened me to place a bomb at a private engineering college in Mysuru where I was studying. The duo used to give me injection and shock treatment if I refused to listen to them,” the youth stated in his death note.

However, the family members and his brother Hanumantha who spoke to media persons have said that Sharanappa Nagarala was not in sound mind. He rubbished the statement and said he was not aware of all these things.

Police have registered a complaint and are investigating.
