Swamiji was speaking after inaugurating the awareness programme to mark World Environment Day organised by Prayaya Pejawar Math in association with Dharmasthala Rural development Project Udupi district at Rajangana on Sunday, June 5.

Since global warming is threatening to pose serious problems, growing more trees is the easiest way to protect the environment from further pollution and damage. Modern lifestyle is affecting the environment. Environment protection is our responsibility. We have to plant more and more trees around us. The public should join hands with various departments in preserving the environment. Plants and trees are signs of development, he added.

Sri Vishwa Prasanna Theertha Junior Swamiji of Pejawar Math said that we should do our duty to protect the fragile environment and the forests. The deterioration of environment and ecology would push the citizens to difficult situations. Everyone should create awareness on the protection of ecology and conservation of the forests. Everyone must develop a sense of responsibility towards nature, he added.

Environmentalist Narendra Rai Derla delivered a special talk on the protection of the environment. K M Udupa managing trustee of Bharatiya Vikas Trust Manipal, K Mahaveera Ajri zonal director SKDRP Udupi, Haridas Manipal, SS Hegde of Syndicate Bank, P K Purushotham, M C Uma and Malathi Dinesh were present.
